My brother is in the market for some tires and is on a tight budget due to being a full time college student. He saw a deal at our local pep boys buy 4 tires get 20% off plus buy 3 get 4th free.

So he found Definity Dakota A/T for under $500 which includes mount, balance, and road hazard. mainly daily driver and many trips to tahoe is what he will use these for.

He also got a quote from a local shop for a set of Hercules Terra Trac AT2's

Does anyone have any input on these? I know they are made by cooper

I heard decent reviews on their MT's. The tread on the AT's look to be good. I would just question the longevity of them. What size is your brother running?

With that size its not a bad deal i guess. Just some advice. I buy and sell alot of tires on craigslist. I find some great deals on full used sets that are in great shape for half the price of new if not, better. If he hasnt looked there first he really should. Ive saved alot of money that way.

Just my 2 cents :)

Tim,

Thanks. yeah ive been looking out but nothing spectacular out here in CA.

I have the Definity Dakota A/T on my rig and they have been great for everything. I wheel them when I can and they get pretty good grip on rocks. They do kinda suck that they don't clear mud from the tread well, but I hate mud anyway. Haha

Thanks did you buy them brand new? How long have they lasted to far?

Buying a new tire is always a good idea. Used tires with tread are usually sold because of cupping, feathering or separation. They have no warranty, dont come with free rotations and balances (actually important to do) And if they need to be mounted tack on more $.. Go with new ones, $500 is a great deal.

They came on my truck when I bought it with a decent amount of tread on them. Since I bought them I have put around 11k on them with a decent amount of offroad time. They have worn okay but not as well as other tires I have had. But they are also a great price compared to others. Will I buy them again? No, but they have been decent for what I have used them for.
