Anyone use the SUV/Tent setups?

If you buy one, it would be best if you found it at a local store. Make sure it fits well with the 4runner, a lot of times it just doesnt fit right. If it doesn't fit then you can return it easily. Sportz/napier is a pretty popular brand. The 81k series is not that good with stuff like rain. The way the top of the tent is (it has a sort of rain guard) defeats the purpose of having a top. If i remember correctly rain would seep through.
Your link is to the newer 83000, from the looks of the picture it seems like it would work well. I guess they heard from their customers because the rainfly now extends to the bottom of each pole. Also they have the 4runner on that list, so it should be good to go.

I think my biggest concern would be how to "seal" it to the sides of the vehicle. You want to prevent as many bugs (and as much water) as possible from getting into the tent (and into your car), but it looks like this is simply tied around the vehicle. I've never used one of these, but the idea is great.

I got one. I used it to camp with the FJ group last week. Let me tell you. It worths every peny. It's roomy, tall and very easy to setup. I didn't connect it to my 4runner because we have to park far from the camp site. It is the best tent I ever had. I love the fact that it only use to poles to erect the tent. I feel like staying in the house with high ceiling. People at camp were drooling of the size/height of the tent. Oh!! the little awning very cool too. You will get 30% off coupon for the rain fly in the box.
It comes with the storage bag too.
One bad thing. I couldn't fold it back as small at it originally pack but it still fit in the bag. It would be too heavy for back pack camping. Sorry I don't have picture of it at the camp.

That one Neversummer put up is heavy duty.
I car camp. Some places I don't even use a tent. And when I do set up the tent I still sleep in the rig . Just depends. I change in the tent or just hang. It let me leave gear in the tent and drive away. How easy do the others disconnect?
How about the "flatbed mod"?
Now the mod for camping is to removing the lower part of the back seat. It lets you not only fold the back flat but gives more front lumbar with the back down. It creates a gap between the seat (all the way back) and the flat part that you can tuck your pillow in . Nice little storage space under the floded down section as well. This let's this 6 footer totaly stretch out. I pull the cushions off the couch in the office to sleep on for the best padding. If your a side sleeper you need a nice thick pad.
I run my rig as a flat bed 24-7 red neck style. Removing the back seat is just a few bolts and I tucked in the laundry room to keep it clean if ever needed.

I have been reading this thread with great interest. I like the idea of a SUV tent except for the whole having to break camp to drive the SUV. There are times when that would be a pain. While enjoying normal camping I have often wished for a way to have the truck/SUV integrated into the

It worth the price but Costco.com only has small size now. They sold out the larger size. With the 4runner, you need the large size. Small zise is for wagon. I got the large size and worth every penny. My kids (2) can play in the tent comfortably. Sometime, at camp, kids don't like to play outside. They want to stay inside play video game. Large size tent keep them move around inside and you can store your equipment inside too.s-one said:
