Anyone using "German Castrol" in V8 T4R?

GC is the 0W-30 Syntec that is actually a bit thicker than most 5W-30 but apparently flows just fine at low temps. Has anyone been using this oil? Any thoughts? I'm going to use it in my Subaru Forester since the Subie loves a slightly thicker oil but thought I'd ask here about the T4R.

No, I do not plan on using 5W-20, in case someone wants to bring it up. :surfer:

I use Mobil1 0W-30 in my V6. Runs great and I have noticed an improvement. Went on a 400 mile trip (one way) and noticed I was averaging about 2+ mpg more with a combination of this and 93 octane.

I remember reading about this oil on BITOG a long time ago. Where can you get it and how can you tell its GC?

I'm game for trying it. I'd like to see if it stops the occasional knock at startup that I hear.

Autozone has a special on it- 5 quarts plus a Fram Double Guard filter for 29.99. Some AZs carry it- some don't.

It will say Syntec 0W-30 and probably say "European Formula" but it MUST say "Made in Germany" on the back of the bottle above the barcode. That is the German Castrol that many search for.

Pep Boys carry it as well but do not have a special on it and price there is $7.50 a quart. Maybe you can try a pricematch over the phone. If that works, let me know.

Frams filters are fine. I just bought 5 double guards on Rock Auto for $18. I have used Frams for years. Never a problem but I only buy filters when on sale and stock up.

Good to know. They were included in the deal so I have four. Then again, I have two Thai-made OEM filters and a dozen Japanese-made OEM filters. I should stop collecting filters.

I really thought about pick up Rotella but i ended up with GC/bosch filter(i'vebeen using them without any isue). It seems like 0w30 will be better choice on my other car. Anyway, i'm still thinking should i use it on 4runner?...
