Anyone washed out rear tail light assembly?

So I made a run to the Pull-A-Part placed today and picked up a passenger side tail light assembly. It is really dusty and nasty and I want to wash it up, polish the lenses and put it on my rig. This raised a question....

Has anyone ever washed out the tail light assembly and if so, did any of the painted on reflective silver paint come off from the inside of the light compartments? I just don't want to foul anything up if I can avoid it! Thanks folks!

Tap water will leave hard spots. Best is to use some deionized water to rinse things out, see how that turns out. If there's water marks you can use a solution of water & isopropyl alcohol which will evaporate.

I have done that on headlight reflectors without an issue. Just to make sure I understand- the tail you picked up is dirty INSIDE the lens? You won't have any issues if you slosh some warm soapy water around in there, and let them fully dry before re-installing.
Blowing compressed air in there can help evacuate some water.

Just use proper blinker fluid to fill it up and it'll be good. I use STP brand.

You know what I would say to use but will say that I have used Simple Green with good success.
