Anyone with "tall" springs running 285/75/16 TreadWrights?

Looks like everything in the 265 range is on backorder and I need some tires asap.

I have a 99 Limited with the factory tall springs. I'm looking at the 285/75R16 GUARD DOG M/T (D)-WITH KEDGE GRIP.

Can I run the 285's if I do a 1" body lift on the stock 5 star rims? I did some searching and know I saw someone here with these tires and tall springs but I cant find the thread.

the kid and sportscarfan are running 99's and 285's. You should be fine till you get a lift. It may rub going around the city, but nothing some trimming and pounding can handle.

First a note. The stated tire size and actual size will vary between types, brands and models.

Can you run a 285 with 99 coils? Sure.

Most 285s (inner sidewall) will rub on the upper control arms, some don't. (more suspension lift actually rolls the upper control arm/ball joint toward the tire). This rubbing can be minimized or eliminated with the use of wheels with less backspacing or wheel spacers. There are two types of spacers, bolt on and slip on. The slip on type are thin (3/16, 1/4", 3/8") and may be enough to eliminate rubbing but reduce the length of the wheel lugs (most people don't like this type). The bolt on type will be thicker and can cause other rubbing due to moving the wheel out further and when turning, they take a larger arc.

They usually will rub on the rear on the front wheel wells (pinch weld/inner fender liner). You may need to do some pounding and/or cutting.

A body lift is also needed (1" or more) to eliminate the rubbing when completely, to the bumpstops, stuffing wheels. (full compression)

I had 285/75 TW Warden's on my truck with just my tall springs for a week. However, I also had my skids plates on, and they sagged the front about an inch. It rubbed REALLY bad on the pinch welds when turning.

If you grind your pinch welds down, I could see it working if you drove carefully.

Once again, if you have a tall suspension lift and flex well, it will rub in the same spots with stock suspension. It will rub more often with the stock suspension.

Lift or no lift, you will need to trim the same.

My 32s rub the top of the front wheel wells because my suspension will flex to the bumpstops.

I've got Goodyear Duratracs...with a 1" body lift and '99 springs I had to flatten the pinch weld and flatten the fenderliner in the same area (used a heat gun). The side lugs will rub the frame at full steering lock, but do not rub the upper a arms at all. It's real close though. No wheel spacers, they would cause the fronts to hit the pinch weld area all over again.

Off road compressing a front suspension will hit the pinch weld area, but only at a specific steering angle. I steer more or less around the problem.

On road there no problems except the full steering lock rub.
5-speed + 4:10's still gets 18.x city, 21.x highway.

Thanks for chiming in. I just ordered the body lift which I wanted regardless of the tire size. I'll probably pull the trigger on the tires tomorrow.
