anyone's spare stuck?

As we all know I got my T4R back in jan, when it was freezing. Today, I wanted to drop the spare and check the tire pressure so I don't get stranded with a flat spare. I got the tools out and tried to drop the spare like I did on my old T4R's but it just turned and clicked. This happen to anyone? solutions?

Is the tire stuck, or the cable mechanism? The first time I tried to lower my spare, the actual tire must have been so tightly raised that it stuck to the undercarriage of my 4Runner. I tapped it pretty hard with a rubber mallet to free it up. The tire had marks on the sidewall because it was so tightly tethered by the cable!

Same here.

Just loosen the cable a 1/2 turn. Sit on the gound behind the truck and kick the tire. VIOLA! You should be on your way.

The cable mechanism is stuck. I put the pieces in to lower them and they it just pops when I try to turn it. I even shined a light into that hole to make sure I was getting it in the right spot, could it be frozen?

Ohio Winter/Salt?

A month or so I ago I was trying to get mine down to check the tire pressure (something I do every three months or so) and noticed it was stuck. I asked my dealer to look at it the next time I brought it it for routine maintenance and he said it was stuck due to road salt/corrosion. They unstuck and lubed it up. Easier for them while it is on a lift.

Should I let the dealer take care of it or shoot it with a lot of penetrating oil and/or WD40?

I had issues on this b4. I went !/2 turn to the RIGHT then back left and it loosened.

I believe that the spare has a tire pressure monitor in it so no need to check it manually, but probably a good idea to make sure that it toes down and up properly

Just keep a good amount of WD-40 on the mechinism and you'll be good! :bigok:
