Has anyone on here have an automatic transmission go out on their 3rd Gen?

If so, what was the problem and how many miles did the T4R have on it when the problem occurred?

yeah actually just now.

1st gears all sorts of jacked up, loud and weird... I dont know why. 169,000-170,000 miles.

I just went and bought a used one today which i will receive tomorrow.

It seems the biggest cause I have heard of is the pink milkshake of doom. Although the T4R at the place I work, business truck, had the catalytic converter sawed off. The lady that drives it didn't know what happened when she started it and tried to drive it a bit, this half tore it up now it shifts real hard into 2nd and seems to shift late as well. It has 245K on it but that incident happened over a year ago.

I was talking to a reputable tranny shop when I had a post purchase inspection done on my transmission (yeah, backwards I know).

He said all 4runners, Tacoma's, Tundra's, etc. have an issue with the overdrive failing. He said you will know as the tranny makes some screeching/squealing noises before it fails and can be anywhere from 3 days to a month before total failure happens.

Anyway, he said that they are still good tranny's, however O/D is their weak point.
