Anything wrong with taking a trip w/ new Runner?

I am going on about a 5hr drive each way this weekend to see my brother and unsure if I should drive my new V8 Runner or not. I currently have 271 miles on the ODO. I thought that I saw somewhere that one should not use the cruise nor take long trips with it until at least 1000miles. Anyone hear or such a thing or is this ok to do?

go for it!! Some people have driven that mileage or more just to get their vehicle home from the dealer. Just be sure to vary the RPM's (no cruise control) and speed, and try not to brake hard during stops. No towing with the vehicle this young!

Souind advice above, no worries on the trip, just take those precautions during the break in period. I started a 4000 mile trip when my car had 350 miles on it... No problems so far!

Go for it. I went on a 1200 mile trip one month after I got it. It was 600 each way. From FL to western VA to visit the parents. Great trip - so much nicer than long trips in the ol Ranger. I did make sure to not stay at a constant speed and did not punch it. As recomended on the break in procedure. Should give you some time to get to know her a bit.

Just let it run....

don't hot rodded it at top speed. cruise around 65-70 mph. Vary speed. Don't mash the brakes, ease up on them.

I would not tkae a GM or a Ford on a long trip until at least 5,000 miles to shake out every bug...but Toyota has my confidence.

I put 2000 miles on mine the first week. Left for vacation the day after we bought it. I tried to keep varied speeds and babied it as much as possible. I'm around 10,000 now and haven't had any problems.

No reason not to -- just follow the break-in procedures. It's actually a good way to get the feel of the new truck.

goose the gas pedal every now and then to get the oil pressure up for the cams, otherwise just drive normally and enjoy it

Came back from my trip yesterday. No problems whatsoever. I was doing anywheres from 60-80 mph. Ironically, when I asked the dealer about the break-in period they told me that with cars these days there is no such thing. I averaged about 17 mpg with my V8. Was a very nice ride.

Just drive, no worries

I took my truck to Vermont the second week I had it, 4 hour trip for DH Biking at Killington. All highway at 70 mph.

I also did the same thing with my last vehicle. Had it for 3 weeks and drove to Canada (12 hours one way) to visit relatives. Never had an engine problem related to mechanical wear/breakin during the 63,000 miles I owned it.

As long as you're not trying to redline or tow full capacity loads during the first few hundred miles, it shouldn't be a problem.
