Anza Borrego, weekend of 3/12-3/13?

My friend and I are still waffling over what trails we want to do... We're talking about Canon Sin Nombre / Arroyo Tapiado / Arroyo Seco del Diablo. Not sure where to camp, though. Sheep Canyon isn't exactly close to those spots.

Just camp in Fish Creek like most do.

Ah man would love to go, but found a weird crunching sound on my front left side. CV boot ripped from last weekend run to Pumpkin Patch. Going to be out for probably a month. But a great time to install new lift kit, uca's, cv's, brake lines, differential fluid and oil! Woo! Then defintiely count me in for an Anza run to test the updgrades :dance:

Considering those trails you mentioned, camp at Bow Willow, it's a pay site, but it's closer to the trails. Blair Valley is also right near by and not a fee area, but no fire rings there, you must bring your own metal fire pit.

Fish Creek is on the other side of the mountain, and all trails between the two are ONE WAY towards Fish Creek.

My friend seems concerned about the area being washed out or of us biting off more than we can chew in terms of how technical the trail is. Any recommendations on a route?

We did Arroyo in November and I believe I was in 2 wheel drive the whole time. We also did Canyon Sin Nombre and there was a couple people in Prius s camping there.

You'll be more than ok...in fact diablo drop off can be done both ways easily..its heart attack hill and the squeeze that are definately one way

Tomorrow is going to be amazing down here. It's been in the high 80's and tomorrow is only supposed to be 76!

Diablo Dropoff is also supposed to be one way, downhill only, because folks who aren't prepared for it tear the living hell out of it trying to make it up. I've also stood above and watched people with capable vehicles tear it up just for fun, folks that went down, back up, then down again to leave via fish creek.

Yes! Sorry for the delay in the trip report... It wound up being just myself and my friend who has a brand new Nissan Frontier 4x4. We arrived at the Sheep Canyon campsite on Saturday afternoon fairly late in the day and barely got ourselves a campsite. The location is pretty awesome. Did some hiking nearby in one of the canyons and drank ourselves to sleep with the two growlers we brought with us from Cismontane Brewing. The next day we drove all the way to the south end of the park and started up Canyon Sin Nombre, Arroyo Seco del Diablo, the Diablo Dropoff and then out Fish Creek Wash.

Diablo Dropoff was a non-event. The chunky stuff just after it was probably the most technical stuff we encountered but it really wasn't too bad. There was a bone stock GX 470 on street tires who had zero issues with it.

I did earn a couple more nicks on my skid plate - definitely getting my money's worth out of that thing.

Weather was great. A bit on the windy side but probably nothing out of the ordinary for that part of the world.

Next time I go I'll probably camp at Blair Valley as well, or perhaps one of the campsites closer to the southern end of the park depending on the weather. It was a LONG drive from Coyote and Sheep canyons to get to Canyon Sin Nombre!

On the other hand, a part of me wants to check out the northern end of Coyote Canyon - the part you enter from the north, closer to Anza. Might be able to combine that with some exploration in and around Idyllwild / Thomas Mountain.

How were Sheep and Coyote Canyon? I wanna give it a go but I'm 2wd. I do have a 3" lift and 32" tires and I plan to head with a group.

Beautiful, scenic areas. You may have a little trouble getting past the rocky part if you're only 2wd.

Hi I along with two other 4x4s will be going to Anza may 21-22 from the OC looking to do coyote canyon trail and sandstone canyon any good recommendations from where to start and explore Saturday ,where to camp Saturday night, and where to explore Sunday before returning home Sunday afternoon
