AOR Bumper and Smittybilt Winch

Hi all,

I've been looking at winches lately and pretty much decided that the Smittybilt XRC 9.5k is the winch I want with it's features and price point. I plan to get the synthetic version for the weight savings and the fact that it won't rust. The only thing I am unsure of is if it will fit in my AOR bumper without me having to cut my grill. I plan to make my own wires to remote mount the solenoid box in the engine bay so that isn't a problem, but I'm wondering about the actual winch and clutch lever, if that will clear when mounted in the AOR bumper.

I would be surprised if you didn't have to do any grille trimming at all. I have the Warn M8000 which is a pretty tight little package and it just fit in there and that's with trimming. See if you can find XRC dimensions and compare it to the M8000, if it's any bigger then I would get hard confirmation that it fits before you buy it.

Check out how tight the front of the winch is with the bumper - almost a custom fit.

Warns put the solenoid box in a spot where you need to trim. Reason I avoided them.

My buddy runs the Smittybilt and he had to notch grill but I think it was the solenoid box. If you move that you may be okay. I went with the superwinch tiger on my AOR. No modification at all but my body lift helps clear the winch also.

Yeah I saw your posts about having to trim the grill for the Warn. I'm hoping I won't have to trim, but if I do then I guess it's not too bad if it's done properly. I'm hoping to find a confirmation about the smittybilt though before buying.

That's good to hear. Any chance you could confirm with your buddy?

That's the problem I'm having is most people seem to have at least a half inch body lift with this bumper, but I'm trying to avoid a body lift as I like how flush the bumper sits now.
 
If you get the Warn made, "L" bracket for the solenoid-you won't need to trim for that at least. I trimmed a tiny bit to clear the winch body on drivers side - mostly so I could flip the engage/disengage lever with no issues.

Unless you have the ability to fab the original bracket. If so, then you can cut, reposition, then weld. You will still have to bend the bracket a little.

Thanks to a heads up from GVL, I spent about $25 shipped for the new L bracket from Amazon MUCH easier!!

I like the Warn's but they're so expensive. Plus I plan to mount the solenoid box in the engine bay so it's not sticking out upfront, I like the cleaner look of it hidden.

Anyone have this winch and would be willing to take a couple measurement's of it?

I may have to start a thread in the general section with a different title to get more hits on that subject.

I have this winch, uninstalled as of yet. What measurements would you like, or just all of them?

Could I get the height of the winch to the highest point that isn't the solenoid box? I assume this would be to the clutch lever most likely.

Could I also get the height of the winch if you were to draw an imaginary line straight up from the rear bolt holes?

And the height in the center of the winch that is in line with those rear bolt holes?

I think that should give me a clearer idea of how it will fit in the bumper.

I never did reply to this. I know he only had to notch for the box. He had to cut a pretty hefty amount out and one of the reasons I avoided buying it. Thats with his 2" body lift. If you move the box Im sure you will be fine. Either way its a price to pay to have a winch.
 
I have this exact pairing and I had to trim my grill. Its not a huge issue to me as I planned to anyway but if you are wanting to keep the grill in tact you will need to get a little creative on it. I honestly don't know if it's doable. I should note that if you relocate the box trimming would be very minimal. I am also not running a body lift at all so a body lift might help a bit as well.

If it's just a little trimming I would be OK with that, I just want to try and maintain a clean look up front.

Interesting. I wonder if the tube bumper has a different mounting point for the winch or something?
 
I got a Badlands 12k winch (more than I needed/wanted, but it was essentially free, so...) that fits snugly against my grill. I relocated the solenoid pack, cause it wouldn't have fit otherwise. Not sure if that really helps ya, but maybe?
