When I first bought my 2010 Limited, even though I really liked the changes in the 5g, I was pretty ticked off at Toyota for the the things they had left off, cheapened, etc., compared to my 4g Limited. As time has gone by and the mileage has piled up those things have lost their importance and I just plain LOVE this thing. It's such a pleasure to own and drive! Thanx, Toyota! :)

I know there were others with the same early disappointments. Are you also enjoying your ride more and more as you drive it more?

I had a few gripes moving from my 3G to a 5G. Most have faded into the background with one notable exception. I very much miss the ability to lower the rear window from my keyfob. Every time I stick the key into he back to lower the window I think, "Major bummer."

yours can't do that? mine does!
 
Other than putting $4/gal gas in it, I absolutely love mine. Then again, unless I bought an EV, I'd be putting $4/gal gas into something. :cry:

But, you're right. The more mileage I put on mine, the more I love it. I'm right at 15k miles and it doesn't feel like I've had it more than 6 months. It is starting to get nice out so that means more and more camping. I'm already planning a trip to Cranberry Glades with 2 bikes on the hitch mount and 3 on the roof rack. My old car just couldn't do that. :)
 
I also miss having the button on my key fob for the back window, why did they take that away? I used it all the time on my 2000 Runner...
 
I've taken a lot of flack in PM's from certain members who took it upon themselves to point out that "the 4Runner is NOT the end-all, be-all vehicle that you portray it to be". It's nice to know that I am not alone in feeling that this is not just a good vehichle, but a GREAT vehicle that easily overcomes whatever initial concerns existed. Best money I ever spent.

anyone looked at how hard it would be to add this feature with an aftermarket product? I know i've seen products that will activate a particular switch for a given interval after u hit the 'unlock' button 2 or 3 or 4 times. Since the t4r already has an 'auto' feature for the rear window I would think this could be pretty simple and cheap to add aftermarket...
 
I missed a couple features when I went from my 4th to my 5th, but those have quickly disappeared. I can live with the mast antenna. I can live with the "not autolocking rear hatch". I do miss my button for the back window, but being able to roll down all 4 windows and the moonroof was a nice feature add. On my limited, it's not nearly an issue because I have the arrows on the back i can use to roll it up and down. I can see how this would be a PIA for those who have to use the mechanical key. Perhaps Toyota changed that on 2011? Johnny Utah indicates above he can do his with the fob, so maybe that was switched in 2011? I don't know, but I just love driving this truck and I continue to get compliments on it all the time.

On my 2000 I had a separate button to drop the back window. I tried holding the unlock button but nothing happened. I looked at the programming options and the only option was all windows (Including sunroof)...but no rear window option. Are you suggesting your 5G has auto rear window down feature from the key fob? Do tell.
 
Ok. Given the comments about the auto down feature being an option, I had to look at the list of programmable options for the 2011.

The options are as follows for "Power Back Window":

Program Option #1: Vehicles without a smart key system: Close operation linked to door lock operation using a key (Default: On)

Program Option #2: Vehicles without a smart key system: Open operation linked
to door unlock operation using a key (Default: On)

Program Option #3 : Vehicles with a smart key system: Close operation linked to door lock operation using the switch (Default: On)

Program Option #4: Vehicles with a smart key system: Open operation linked to door unlock operation using the switch (Default: On)

Program Option #5: Vehicles with a smart key system: Time required to press and hold the switch before the window begins to open/close (Default: 0.8 Sec).

Now, the power windows (Front/Passenger/Sunroof) can be controlled via the option "Wireless remote control linked operation (open)" (Default: Off). However, one has to hold the button through the entire operation (i.e.- if one releases the button on keyfob before all windows are completely down, then the auto down stops).

If someone knows of a way to make this happen (auto down via keyfob)... please let post.
 
Okay, as DigableKid mentioned, I tried holding the unlock button on the key fob and it doesn't work. Maybe it was programmed on his that way? I will get over not having that button I had on the key fob for my 2000 4Runner, I've only had my 2011 for a little over a week now...just a minor adjustment I guess. There are a lot of new features that make up for it :biggrin2:

As sandcrawler mentioned, I just meant theres no more "hatch assist" motor that would pull the hatch closed as my 4th gen did. Not a big deal. The lock/unlock functions on the remote work fine.
