Approved/Recommended Rim Width

If the tire manufacturer states that the minimum approved or recommended rim width for a given tire is 7.5 inches, can that tire be safely installed on 7-inch rim (T4R Ltd)? For example 275/55R20 on the oem ltd rims. Any potential (tire) performance problems? Safety concerns? Thank you!
