Honest question. Has anyone here been in a situation where having a rifle in your truck saved your life or someone else’s? Just trying to figure out who other than LEO or maybe private security needs an AR in their vehicle.

Why do I "need" and AR15 in my truck?
Because it's my god given right. It's protects my god given rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Just like it's my god given right to drive whatever vehicle I want to drive.

It's saved some livestock & LGD lives.

However, that's besides the point because nobody has to justify it, because it's a right. You never know when you may need it and there's no harm in being prepared.

I have not, but the option is important, in case I feel as though I should.

We over-accessorize our vehicles in every other respect, so why not this one.

I mean, I carry a pistol in my 4Runner and/or on my person, but I can never imagine a scenario like the movie Heat where I have to break out an AR and get into a gun battle. I certainly hope I would never be in that situation

Riots, Antifa, Looting, Extreme Violence, Defunding the Police, Police being told by Mayors not to respond.

No, but large, excited groups tend to have less empathy towards individuals and have no reservations about pulling motorists from vehicles and beating them... sometimes to death. We've seen this time and again during various riots.

And before someone comes in with the "you expect them to wait for you to get your rifle" line of ignorance (usually from people that have never had to fight for their lives, nor ever been in a gun fight) ... no, that's what my pistol and spare mags are for, to get me to my rifle (if need be). If escape and evasion are off the table, the only other option is overwhelming violence of action... by any means necessary.

You are not wrong... and people are responding accordingly.

If you thought toilet paper shortage was bad, the gun and ammo industry is even worse. Shelves are bare, and ammo is at an extreme premium.

There have been record number of gun purchases this year due to current events.

The demographics show some pretty interesting information regarding first time gun buyers. Many who had no prior interest, or were even against guns have changed their tune.

Nope, I don't carry, but I am not opposed to those who do. I would if I could, but the laws in my jurisdiction do not allow for it without going foul of the law.

My first line of defense is to actively try and avoided bad situations, and don't inject yourself into high liability scenarios.

As far as "need"... it's not really up for debate, nor is it something a gun owner should have to justify.

It's the same reason I buy insurance or wear a seatbelt, risk management. I don't get into my car looking to get into an accident to ejected from my vehicle. I wear it incase trouble comes looking for me. I also drive carefully and respectfully to help insure I don't compromise myself. I believe most who carry a firearm share a similar sentiment, but you occasionally get that one a$$hole speeding down the highway that ruins it for everyone else.

Personally I think it's a shame that many people looking for a source of protection can't actually exercise this right in a legal manner.

There is a monetary cost and legal implications of using deadly force for self defense, but if you are dead, the legal bills are a moot point.
