ARB Bumper Modifications

In my recent adventures the approach angle with the ARB bumper was a hindrance. I intend to trim a couple inches off of the bottom of the sides like some other members have done here. The other modification I want to do is to cut out the crumple zones from the mounts and weld them back together to bring the bumper closer to the body. From what I can tell, all other plate or tube bumpers don't incorporate any crumple zone of sorts. Thoughts?

Do it. Manufacturers don't seem to have grasped that 4WD vehicles need good approach angles. Yes, you'll sacrifice some collision protection, but for those of us that actually wheel, it's worth it.

Do it. One reason I ditched my ARB on my Tacoma and built a new tube bumper for it, was because it hung up on everything. The approach angle sucked. The only reason I went with the ARB on my now 4Runner, was because I got such a good deal on it, I wouldn't be running it otherwise. I plan to either cut it down some, or sell it and get a different setup, there's so many nice, higher clearance bumpers out there.
