ARB bumper question?

So I got the ARB today, as well as a SmittyBuilt winch. I know I need to reclock the motor. But what about this cutting 2" I heard about? Does this come off the frame, or off of the bumper brackets?

Well I don't have an ARB or TJM but I had to do some cutting for my tube bumper. Basically I needed to trim off some of the metal flange and the end of the frame rails that the stock bumper mounted to.

Calm down, not everyone lives on this board 24/7. There are hundreds of threads about fitting ARB bullbars to 3rd gens, I'm surprised you haven't found any.

All you need to do is cut off the flat plate that is on the end of the chassis rails. You can do this by cutting the welds, or you can cut the plate around the edges so it is the same size as the rail. The instruction that come with the bar are customized for the Tacoma and are quite vague at times. PM me if you run into any trouble or have any other questions.

No, the crush cans are discarded. The new ARB bumper brackets have 'ripples' built in which perform the role of crush cans, so you will still have the correct deceleration performance for normal airbag operation.

I have 2 that came with the bumper. Black rectangular steel boxes. Did you use these? They show to bolt up to the front of the frame rail.

No, they are only used on certain years of Tacoma's. Taco chassis changed at one point and those extensions cover that change.

They and the long thin piece will not be needed on your 4Runner.

Thanks, for the info. I should be just about done in an hour or so. If anyone tells you a SmittyBuilt won't fit don't believe it. It took me 15 mins. to clock the motor.
BTW, are you familiar with Beaver Co? I used to live in the New Brighton/ Beaver Falls area. Again, thanks for your help.
