ARB install question

Yes I have seen the numerous threads on ARB bumper installs and I am not asking if it is hard. In fact after reading and seeing so many people have done it themselves I decided to save the 400+ dollars on having someone install it and attempt to do it myself. I just ordered the bumper and hopefully pick it up Friday. I do have a few questions though.
My questions are can just one guy do it or do I need to call some friends?

What kind of time should I set aside for it?

Also I have not seen many with a winch installed and wondered it it just bolts onto it or if a little more is needed?

also any other tips or advice is welcomed.

Friends are always a good idea. (having said that I just installed a CBI (read heavy) bumper on the rear of my t4r by myself)
A tranny or motorcycle jack is helpful for holding it in place.
Make sure your winch is compatable with the bumper.

The winch will bolt in.

To install the bumper, the biggest hassle will be to cut off the tabs on the front of the frame rail so the mounting brackes will fit. There are several writeups on this. You will need an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel and a grinding wheel as well as a drill. There is a list of instructions that will come with the bumper that show how to install on a Tacoma. Once the tabs are cut off, the instructions will work for the install on your 4Runner. Really not a whole lot to it...

1) Bolt on mounting brackets
2) Mount winch to bumper
3) Mount bumper to brackets (may take a little persuasion with rubber hammer)

You will want an extra set of hands for the install.

Now if you have a body lift, it will be a little more complicated.

THe winch will bolt right into it, but you have to that before the bumper goes on the truck. So you need some strong friend to hold you your bumper/winch combo wile you bolt it to the brackets.

Read the directions, and i say if you give yourself 5 hours you should be able to figure it out, get the winch in, and get it on the truck

I will hopefully have some help but we will see. Yeah the tabs were what worried me, but after looking at a few write-ups it made it seem not as bad as I thought.

and i did check the winch to make sure it was compatible already. I ended up going with a M8000, found it for a great deal.

also no body lift to complicate things, for now at least.

Thats a great choice for a winch. I have the same. I got it cheap too . that winch is what i recommend to anyone, but especially people with arb's, since the bumper was supposedly built around that winch. You will have to clock the motor so you can get to the clutch. It will be in the perfect spot once you clock it

thanks, yeah that is the one I printed out to hopefully try and install this weekend, if not I won't have time until next month to get it on.

ARB install is pretty straight forward.. Brian listed one of the best step-by-steps out there. I highly suggest at least one friend to help. Modding for a body lift is time extensive. Warn and Smittybilts seem to sit perfectly in the bumper. Clocking the motor is almost neccessary in most cases.

it's time consuming and tedious for most.. others it may be easier. For me it took about 2 hours. That's taking off the bumper, sawzall the mounts, re-weld, fab some gussets and weld those, paint, re-mount, and allign.
