Hey everyone. Looking for a bit of advise to help with an issue I've had with my new rear diff.
About 6 weeks ago, I installed a couple rebuilt/regeared diffs from one of the well known companies that sells them online. I had them put an arb in the rear. I installed both diffs about a month ago and everything seemed fine. Last weekend I finally got around to installing my compressor to hook up the rear arb. Got everything installed and went to test the locker and I just had air hissing out of my axle breather. Great...
Checked the bulkhead compression fitting. Pulled the copper line out a bit to make sure it was fully seated. I pulled it very gently and the tube pulled right out. A section of it anyway...
Next day out comes the diff. This is what I find.
There was a lot of metal in the gear oil when I drained it and I now know why. The pinion had been contacting the arb casing because they didn't clearance the pinion gear enough, or at all, per ARB's instructions.
So I called the company up and they said to send it back. So I did. They said they would rebuild it with new bearings so at this point it looks like they'll be covering this under warranty.
But I want to be absolutely certain that the copper line doesn't meet it's demise via the ring gear again. Anyone ever used one of these?
Digital Inspection Camera
Or more specifically, has anyone ever used one in a rear axle housing? I can't think of any other way to verify that the copper, seal housing tubing has the proper clearance once the diff is put back in the axle housing.
Any words of wisdom from someone who has dealt with this issue before?
