ARB Touring Awning Room Windows

So I'm about to bite the bullet on the ARB 2500 Awning and the ARB Touring Awning Room but I came across something very interesting. I've tried searching for it as well as looking through various YT videos. Just wanted to see if anyone here had an answer for this before I go calling ARB. I also figured I might as well give some food for thought for anyone else that might be interested in the future (given that I haven't actually seen anything regarding this topic in my search).

From what I can see, the window shades only open/close from the outside, thus, IMO, "defeating" the purpose of getting the room to begin with: privacy. Is there anything on the inside as well, or can anyone just walk up to my room and look inside? Not that it would matter too much, but every awning room I see with windows, it seems like they all just open/close from the outside. I'm sure I can rig something up but I thought it would make more sense to have control of it from the inside, not out. :confused:

I don't have an answer, and you may already know this- AutoAnything.com pretty much has a 20% off coupon going everyday. I just bought a 2500 awning yesterday for $240, no tax and free shipping. They also sell the awning room. Just thought I'd pass that on just in case you hadn't seen it!

So I just got off the phone with ARB and looks like the roll up shade for the windows is only on the outside. Leaving this here in case anyone else needs this information.
 
I'm assuming wet weather is the key issue to deal with if the solid window/walls were on the inside. How would you prevent water from seeping in? I can think of a few solutions, but they add $$$ obviously.
 
go see a boat canvas or an awning company. Either one of them would be able to help you. There are all kinds of vinyl glass you could have sewn into your tent,there is a tinted vinyl glass also. With the fabric that gets cut out for the window can be sewn back to the inside.I say these things to you because thats what I do. Feel free to message me and I will be more than happy to give you all the knowledge you need.
 
So I just purchased and used for the first time my ARB 2000 awning and ARB awning room last weekend. See photo. I think that as ARB states, this is NOT a tent or to be used as one, though I did and many do. The reason is that even staked and guide correctly; it would not hold up well in high winds. It is to be used to primarily as an auxiliary room to cook/eat, change clothing, etc. or avoid the sun/rain or bugs if you need to during the day. The way ARB designed it, with the covers on the outside, would provide better weather resistance in the rain. The outside covers also do not zip or velcro at the bottom, so air does enter a little underneath when the breeze picks up. Again it is not a "true" tent but will provide adequate protection and plenty of room to get out of the weather if needed. I enjoyed having mine last weekend, and it will become a valuable piece of kit in my future travels. I picked mine up from autoanything.com for $135 delivered during their 22% off sale, so it is one of the biggest bang for the buck items I have purchased to date for Overlanding.

Yeah I definitely get that. I just figured they'd also make something for the inside as well.

Yeah, I'll probably end up getting some old tent material laying around and sew it on the inside so that it gives me the ability to open/close from both inside and out.

Exactly what I'd use it for is probably as a changing room and maybe occasionally as a tent if absolutely necessary, both of which would require privacy. I'm sure no one is ever going to just run up to the "room" and roll up the windows while anyone is in there changing or whatnot, but it would never have "full privacy". It just borderline seems like an oversight. It's like putting curtains/blinds on the outside of your windows, not inside. Nothing a little sewing can't fix.

If you are referring to me, I bought the 2500 for my 4th gen. I don't like that it will stick out a bit, but I wanted the most coverage. The way I am mounting it, I should be able to take it off an put it on as needed. Although I do leave my RTT on year around, so leaving the awning on too wouldn't be a big deal.

I'll have it mounted here in a couple hours, I'll post a pic.
 
Thank you for your response, the 2500 is pretty big but looked awesome on your rig. I was concerned about the hang off as well. But thanks again!

I really like the new version of the room with screen, at some point may sell my old room for my 2500 for the newer version if it's compatible.

I did a review of the awning in the 3rd gen section back in February when I first purchased mine. The review is here ARB 2500 Awning Review and covers a few of the decisions I went through before purchasing it.

I just recently went on a pretty long trip and had a chance to use it quite extensively. Here are my pros and cons:

Pros
  • Extremely easy to set up.
  • Could easily fit my two ARB sport chairs and a table inside along with two sleep systems.
  • Easy in-and-out access without having to bend over and crawl through an opening.
  • No extra poles.

Cons
  • Yes, as mentioned, you have to go outside to raise the screen opening.
  • No side pockets inside anywhere.
  • No place to attach any 550 cord to hang up anything.

Overall, I would give this a four and half out of a five star rating. I will continue to use this as a tent. I love the fact that I can use my "old school" propane Coleman lantern set on a nice table inside as both a heater and a light. (something to think about before you move over to a USB lantern).
We woke up to freezing temps last week but inside the ARB it was nice and cozy.

I also loved the fact that I could get up in the morning, sit down inside comfortably, and relax with my wife over a nice cup of coffee. The 2500 gives you plenty of room to sit side-by-side.

I haven't seen the new room but will take a look at it later on.

I will still be purchasing the 2500 once my Gobi Stealth is more or less on it's way (fingers crossed). As of now, I will still go with the current Touring room but that may change when my roof rack comes in. The new one does look pretty nice too.

This thread wasn't created to "bash" them by any means. I love what it is (which is why I intend to purchase) but I didn't see any thread or mentions of this potential "flaw" <-maybe too harsh of a word. I just made it in case someone else out there may be expecting the same thing and may not realize it till it's too late. Then again, maybe I'm the only one that cares about it who knows :shrug:. I do intend to use it as a tent/changing room so I thought it would be important. That's all. I hope at least ONE future purchaser finds this information helpful or else this would all be a waste :lol: :cheers:
