Are 2WD 4Runners basically useless other than as grocery getters?

PS Toyota is almost always offering 0% financing and no money down on new models, so how can you lose? Especially knowing the resale value will be so high.

Might be more choices on Oahu but no better deals usually. Be patient in your search. And consider buying new if you are willing to take on a payment. I bought a loaded brand new custom order Tacoma from Servco Honolulu for less than the asking price on used ones 5 ish years old and 50k ish miles on them. The Toyota resale market over there is crazy. Especially on 4x4's.

For example I sold my 93 reg cab 22re with 250k miles on Oahu for $6,500. And it wasn't even a clean truck.

FBI not alot of choices. Surf the Web before going to Oahu. Better luck there. You also could check Maui as well.

Lol prices on all islands is mind blowing. I actually was thinking about starting a business about transporting Toyota trucks back home and sell it for some $$$. I believe you when you say you got paid that much.

Yup.. Worthless 2wd 4runners.. Lol.. Jk.. I kid
. this is my DD.. And a 2wd shot on the rocks.. I've been driving and wheeling it in 2wd for a few months now. Front diff is grenaded.. Has 4.30s and e-locker but I don't use the elocker in 2wd, I could wire mod it, but it gets me where I want to go still in 2wd without wire modding.. Still would be nice to afford to fix my 4wd though :/

Well since you're on big island just trade me your runner for my 2001 bmw lol, I live big island as well on the west side in waikoloa

Well, thought long and hard as I could with limited knowledge I have about it all, but the consensus here seemed to be just bite the bullet and get a 4WD, so I did.

Since towing a boat up a wet ramp was a concern, thought about a V8 2WD with the "Auto LSD" but reading up on that showed it to be just a rehash of the VTRAC using the brakes to mimic a true LSD. A true 4WD V8 is about as rare as conservatives in Hawaii, so the search for a later model V6 was back on.

There was a 2007 Sport and 2008 SR5 available on this island for about the same, a bit under $20k. Both about 70k miles.

Since buying something from another island and shipping it over seemed like a $$$ cluster f**k, we went and looked at the 2007 Sport 4WD. Hour and a half of driving vs. dealing with TSA, renting a car, etc. to inspect a car was not such an attractive prospect. More than a bit less expensive as well.

The cosmetics could have been better, some TLC is needed, but mechanically it seems all there. Liked the idea of the bigger brakes on the Sport. No other fancy electronic gizmos, but I usually see that as stuff that craps out and it too expensive to repair. Who really needs powered seat memories anyway? Rear ride height control might have been nice.

Bought the thing and drove it home. Now to sell the 2001 2WD SR5, which is in better cosmetic condition, thanks to being a wife's car and lightly used.

Suppose this means I have to go live on the 4th Gen forum now?

Good move, although I've seen a few 4wd trucks floating around here on Oahu. Shipping between islands isn't as bad as you think, it's just annoying. I shipped my 3rd gen from Kona and it wasn't terrible. However, honestly after searching used cars here when I wanted my 4th gen, the process and choice of cars suck. I found my one owner Sport V8 with all service history, but I had been looking for 2 months and seen at least 10 trucks. The guy hadn't even put it for sale when I caught word from my sister that he was thinking of selling his truck in a few weeks. I called him up, drove to his house that evening and left a deposit. The day I picked up the truck, he told me that two of his neighbors tried leaving a deposit the next day. The afternoon I pulled in my garage, my neighbor was outside and after he learned of how clean the truck was, he told me that he'd write a check the day I wanted to sell it if I ever did.

Also with my Honda, all maintenance done by dealer techs and I had the car for sale no more than 10 minutes on craigslist when a buyer came with cash and it was gone from my ownership in 2 hours, same day, middle of the week not even a weekend. That's how quick a clean car goes over on the islands, so really, I see little real chance of you having better luck on Oahu. Either or, sorry, long post, congrats!
