Are 4runner engines normally loud?

I just bought a 1994 4runner and love the truck. It runs fairly smooth until I get over 75mph then it starts to shake a bit. I think that it is because of my tires being unbalanced. But, I am wondering if it is normal for our engines to be loud. My 4runner sounds like a baby MACK truck. Its almos like a whinning noise. Is this normal or do I need to replace spark plugs or something else?

opps... I have the 3.0 liter v6 4x4, is this typically a noisy engine?

That whining noise is mostly just the cooling fan. And, Yes, it is a little noisy to me too - compared to my other cars with smaller electric fans.

the truck generally isnt built to go 75mph.. i have a manual tranny and you are supposed to shift around 3200 rpm for all gears, and at 75mph im around 3700 rpm in 5th.. just my 2 cents.. but the fan does make a lot of noise.. and i would be careful with that plastic fan.. my fan clutch is kinda old and at 4000 rpm is blew to pieces just the other day.. replaced it with a metal chevy fan and spacer.. works great. just check the fan clutch and fan for damage.

Yes the fan makes it loud and yes the tapping is normal( i fugured it was your next question) it is the injectors.

you can replace the fan with a electric fan out of the Ford taurus, try a search someone on here has just done this.

What chevy fan and spacer did you use?
I just got an after market fan an I don't like it (Slightly warped) and am looking for something else.

Is there an easy way to tell if that ticking is the injectors, or a manifold leak. My muffler is rusted and is VERY loud, so I don't notice any ticking from the engine, but once it warms up i hear it and it follows the RPM's when i rev it. Any Ideas? Removing the manifold does NOT look like one of those things you do for fun.
