Are 4runners just too damn common?

I've noticed that if I have a specific car in mind then I see them everywhere. I mean there's thousands of people driving around you every day (city) and there's only so many vehicles on the market.
When I owned a Kia Optima I couldn't believe how many of them I noticed on the road. Sometimes on the freeway there would be 5 or 6 at a time cruising near me. I always looked at it as a good sign that it was a solid purchase due to the popularity.
There's tons of unique cars out there to buy... but 90% of them are unique for a reason.

not common where I live in ohio. my local Toyota dealer has sales on everything on the lot EXCEPT 4Runners, I asked a salesman why I never saw a 4Runner for sale in the paper and he said because the people that buy them, buy them because they are 4Runners, not because they are on sale.

They aren't common like popular vehicles are common. They haven't made all that many. Look at the production numbers. They built what, 139k 4Runners total in 2018?
Heck, in 2016 they built a couple hundred thousand more Camrys at just the Kentucky plant. "Camry 366,302"

Try a Chevy Vega or AMC Pacer. That should make you stand out from the crowd and you can probably find one, somewhere.
if you really want a unicorn,
pick up a cosworth vega, had a chance as a teen to pick one up with side draft webers and the efi removed.
but it was hard to pick that with my heart set on a '84 toyota celica fastback in dark blue.

So probably 4 times as many Citation around as you think.

They are everywhere in Austin and surrounding areas. So many that I cannot keep count on a normal day.

KIA is popular in Austin too. It's so expensive to live here now people can drive a new car inexpensively. Hyundai is the same.

2019 is the last year of the Cruze. Chevy discontinued most of their car models.

As soon as petrol goes up again and people stop buying trucks, they will require another bailout.

There are a fair amount on the road, and for the right reason. Unless you are going super car status, or something that was never a big seller in the beginning, odds are you are going to count them a lot when driving around. Especially when it's a Toyota.

Toyota's are common, especially the mid level SUV. A lot of people can afford them. I see a lot less Land Cruisers than 4Runners on the road, mainly because of the price.
I am a car guy, I always keep my eyes peeled for cars. Believe it or not, Minneapolis has a great car scene. Once you hit the $100,000 mark with a vehicle, the market plummets. They are less common due to affordability.

I don't know, Ferraris and Lambos are popular, but not common.
I've had my 4Runner 2.5 years or so and the only mod I've done - other than adding Focal speakers - is adding a boat and trailer. And some Maxtrax and such, but nobody can see the recovery gear.

Here seems about split between Male/Female. On my regular 20 mile commute to work each day ill see around 5-10. Who cares..the more the better.
If you want unique go by a rare one off show car... Ill come and give you a tow when you slam it into the ditch :lookout:

Ha, same. I never noticed Optimas before I picked mine up 3 years ago. However, popularity =/= solid purchase (at least for me). Mine was subject to that engine recall. Funny enough, a week after receiving the recall notice in the mail my engine seized with under 60K miles. Replaced the engine free of charge but that swung the pendulum into it's time to ditch this vehicle before the next catastrophic issue arrives without coverage.
