Are 99-02 Headlights Glass or Plastic?

I have been looking for headlights(99-02 style) for my 98 but I'm hesistant to make the jump. OEM are out of my price range. There is a set on Ebay for $69 shipped from am-autoparts in Kansas.. it states ; "All of our lighting is made of the same material as the originals that came on the vehicle. So if your original item has a plastic lens, then ours does too. If your original light has a glass lens, then ours will too."
Sooo what is the original Toyota lens made of ? Does anyone have feedback on this seller or their items?

99-02 headlights

I just ordered and installed the Depo headlights from Amazon. They are glass lenses. Cost $44. each and they look fantastic all around! I cannot tell they are not OEM. My 98 now has the look and better light of the 99-02 range headlights.

To those that have done this, do you feel it was as very pronounced improvement in the light output? I have a '97 and my lights aren't great but the lenses are clean and not foggy at all. My initial plan was to get upgraded bulbs like Silverstars or something (plenty of threads already there). However if my lenses are the real problem I would consider the upgrade.

Thinking about getting a set to do a HID retrofit on and save my OEMs.

Would a set of aftermarkets with glass be just as good if I'm going to cut them up anyway? I'm sure the glass is thicker and higher quality on the OEMs than the aftermarkets.

Nooooooo!!!!! The only aftermarket headlights to buy are the TYC Glass from Amazon, only $35 each & they dont leak or fog up!

I upgraded my bulbs but it didn't do much. It's the reflector in the back that gets dirty/dull. When I put in the TYC's the output was much better, even with the cheap bulbs that came with the TYC's.

The cheaper aftermarket ones do have glass lenses, but they are thinner glass and use a cheaper more brittle plastic on the rest of the headlight, some of them aren't sealed very well either. That being said, they are definitely usable.

Thanks. I didn't realize the reflector was the problem. I'll look into replacements but is there way to fix or upgrade the reflector with polish, paint or some other coating.

You could take it apart & clean the inside. Hopefully it doesn't leak water after you put it back together. I figured $70 for 2 TYC headlights was a no brainer. It's the only aftermarket brand people seem to like around here. We'll see how many years they last.

I've yet to install my $77 pair but curious how they will turn out.
They look and feel stout.
