Are my shocks shot?

Lately my Runner seems to float like an old caddy. My '03 has 93K miles and I'm pretty sure the previous owner never replaced the oem shocks. Is this a lot of miles for the oem's?

If it's "bouncing" after bumps like a boat, then yes, the shocks are probably bad. Test it out on a speed bump... roll over the bump with enough speed to compress the springs (maybe 5mph) without using brakes and see if it goes boing-boing-boing. Shocks in proper working order will just compress and rebound while a lot of "bouncing" indicates that the shock is no longer able to control the spring action.

a good test is to push down on the front bumper while parked and let go if it comes up and bounces you need new shocks, do same thing for rear
