The 4Runners (both V6 and V8 stock 4wd) have been clocked in the mid 15s so I wouldn't say that's scorching the pavement. 
The 4Runner is quick in short distances due to it's larger displacement and has torque vs most smaller 4bangers which need to be wound up a bit to get going.
You want a sleeper then get the RAV4 which is hitting near mid 14s in the 1/4 mile which is just a few ticks slower than a WRX.

By the way, that taco is pretty sweet looking.
I'm going to go a different direction than being fast or whatever. Yes I think both the v8/v6 have plenty of power . Its far from a drag racing sleeper.
I think a 4x4 in terms of somewhat of a sleeper is that no matter what generation you have I think people have no idea of it capabilities and where it can go off road. The only people that really know that are us 4R guru's .

It's kinda funny to see this post this morning. Yesterday I was at a light and some kid in an Mitsubishi pulls up next to me. When the light turned green he took off so I punched it. I gave him a run for his money for awhile. At the next light (bout a mile down the road) he says, "Holy crap, I didn't know those things could do that." Just another reason I'm lovin my 4Runner.

Tip of the Day: You don't have to be looking at the front of the 4Runner to know if it has a V8. You can tell just as easily from behind. The V8's have a different tow hitch (weight distribution hitch) than the V6's. If there is no tow package at all then it is a V6

I think what he ment by a sleeper is that it looks like a typical vehicle on the outside, but under the hood there is a completely modified engine and components. And about telling if its a v8 from the behind, its not true, because in the early production models of the '03's, they used the weight carrying hitch only. I think this is true only because I have an extremely early production model, manufactured 01/2003 #269 and it doesnt have the weight distribution hitch. but i sure as hell wish it did. someone correct me if im wrong and if so sorry for the wrong info.

You are correct. I have an early '03 with a V8 and it also has the weight carrying hitch. IIRC they went to the weight distribution hitch in the middle of the '03 model year, roughly February of '04. Though considering how few V8's were made prior to this date, it's still a pretty good bet that any vehicle with the distribution hitch is a V8.NDRYDEN123 said:

If i wouldnt' of known and it pulled up to me while i was driving my 95 Mustang GT, pushing 300rwhp, i would have raced him and lost, unless he sucked as a driver.

I think the t4r are pretty quick for a SUV from 0-60. Though I would not call it a sleeper in the real sense. I have definitly have surprised a few unexpecting people. Oh ya both my parents t4r and mine have a weight carrying hitch from the early '03 production. Though I also wish I had the weight distribution hitch on mine!
