Are Sequoias reliable past 100k. Replacing 3rd Gen

So my 3rd Generation 97 4runner got rear ended last week. It is going in for an estimate on Monday and it looks like the frame might be bent. If so it will probably be totaled. I have had my 4runner for 8 years and have had only minor issues with it. It has been a great vehicle and has 224k miles on it.

If it gets totaled then I will most likely be getting another 4runner. HOWEVER, my wife wants us to get a Sequoia for the additional room for kids and dogs. My question is whether they are traditionally reliable after 100k. I have done Google searches and cant find the answer. There are some reasonably prices Sequoias in my area ($10-$11k) with just over 100k miles on them.

If this was a 4runner I wouldnt blink about the mileage but don't know anything about Sequoias. If they are not reliable I want to be able to educate my wife and continue to focus on a new 4runner.

I have a real estate buddy with over 300,000 miles on his 2002. Not as much maintenance as my 3rd gen 4runner. I have other friends who love theirs as well. Just learn to love the gas pump more, knowing that you are helping to contribute to the purchase of some fancy police cars in Dubai:

Consumer reports is pretty reliable as far as used vehicles go , what I used for my 4r, only concerns would be the usual water pump , TB, and possibly try for 05 or newer changed tranny like 4r !!

I don't think you have anything to worry about. The older Sequoias share the same engine, 2UZ-FE 4.7L V8 as the 4th gens, Tundras, and Land Cruisers and they have proven to be rock solid. I haven't had a single engine related problem with my V8 4th gen with 117k miles.

The only potential issue I have heard of recently is the problem with rust causing serious frame damage and failures in some vehicles. It appears that the Sequoias share the same frame source as the Tundra and Tacoma, and there was a large recall on them for potential frame damage and replacement. Otherwise they seem pretty good. I would have a reputable mechanic closely inspect the frame for damage before buying one.

I agree with this. The 2UZ-FE is an incredible engine and with proper maintenance it will run a very long time. I was looking for a clean 05 or 06 Sequoia when I finally caved and bought my 2011 Trail Edition 4Runner

I've got an 06 4x4 Sequoia with 142K miles on it and I've yet to have any problems. I just do my regular maintenance. Love that truck!
