Are these 6000k HIDs?

Just wondering if this guy is running 6000k HIDs or higher? They seem awfully green to me, but in some pics I've seen the 6000k HIDs are white, and in others they are totally green. Just wondering if anyone has 1st hand experience with the 6000K lights, seems like what is advertised in these kits is in actuality all over the spectrum.

If all else fails, I will look into getting some 4300K instead.

On a side note, is that noise you hear all the intake? Sounds crazy. Of course, it could just be the echo from the garage.

Anyone know if this guy happens to be a member here? I'd like to ask him what they are if he's around. Trying to come up with a list of HID kits that are balanced between cost and quality.

(If you check his other videos, he races a charger, lol. Either that charger blows or the 4Runner has bigger cojones than I thought.)

HID's come in different color temperatures as I recall. If that person had 4300's they would look warmer (more orange), but since they are blueish and it is shot during the day, the lights should be above 5500K.


3000k (orange) <-> 6000k (blue)

3000k (orange) <-> 6000k (blue)

To make it clear, the color temp is rated in Kelvin, 3000ish is yellow, 4300 is white (very OEM), 6000 is blueish, and above that starts getting purple.

4300K is the ideal K for lighting. The most visible light, and the most non obnoxious color.

I have yet to see orange headlights. :D
3000K is bright yellow. Annoying if you ask me, as it drowns out your headlights, even if they are HID. I prefer to not see yellow, so I got HID's for my lows, but got PIAA plasma ion yellow halogens for my fogs.
 
Most stock halogen lamps are in the 3500K-4000K range.

I'm running 2500K fogs (Hella Optilux) and they outperform stock 10:1.

I'm running Silverstar Ultras in my High beams (65W, 4100K) and am waiting for the Ultras to be manufactured in my low beam size(H11 bulb).

+1 on anything much over 4300K being obnoxious and deserving of a baseball bat.

I had a 6000K aftermarket HID kit installed in my 97 Audi A8, but they had no greenish tint in them whatsoever, I would rather say they were blueish, but they probably vary depending on manufacturer.

Yeah, I knew the colors were rated in K and come in different temps, I just can't believe how much one supposed temp can differ so much between manufacturers, and so thats why I asked what you guys thought.

I'd like to possibly try a 6000K set once I get my projectors and everything installed, but not if they're greenish blue like the ones appear to me in that video. A tiny hue of blue is cool with me though, and almost preferred - but I will go with the 4300K if I can't locate a quality set of 6000K.

Nokya makes 5000K (Cosmic White, if I recall) that I'm considering while waiting for the Silverstar Ultras to be made in my low beam bulb size. Not sure I want to spend $40 or $50 just to experiment, though.
 
Another option to consider for you halogen guys looking to upgrade but don't want to go the HID route is to modify an H9 bulb to fit in place of an H11. To quote Daniel Stern's description, "These new single-filament 65w bulbs are rapidly gaining popularity amongst automakers for use primarily in high-beam headlamps, often in conjunction with H11 bulbs for the low beams. H9 is an extremely high output design (2100 lumens) with an extremely white light color." The bulb and base are identical with two exceptions being there is no coated tip, and one of the tabs for the twist lock needs to be modified slightly. To give you some quick specs:

H11 (Stock T4R): 55W, 1200 Lumens

To compare this, a D2S bulb (common OEM HID projector bulb) puts out 3200 Lumens @ 35W.

This is an interesting Idea, never realized it was possible. Would this mod require a new wiring harness?
 
Keep in mind that the colors really never look right through a camera. Plus its picking up all kinds of other light in the parking garage.


Look into halogen infrared reflective(HIR) lights.

Silverstars are carp. They appear brighter, but there not. Light shifted in the direction of blue is perceived as brighter by your brain, but its not. Its a well-known optical illusion.
