Are these things standard or options???

Hey everyone,

Well I finally pulled the trigger... I sold my 07 Mustang GT and purchased an 08 4Runner SR5. It was fun driving the Mustang on the Autobahn here in Germany, but I really need something better for the Winters and something better just all around. I should be driving her by next week after she clears customs.

My question is that I've just really started doing my homework on the 4Runners and I'm noticing that every single one has fog lights and the window tint all around the vehicle except fronts. My 4Runner does not have the fog lights and no window tint. Was this a standard option that my vehicle just didn't come with? I did not build my vehicle to my specs as it's an 08 and when I went to the dealership I asked what he had for 08 and asked for the discounts. Remember, I'm here in Germany so I don't have the luxury to go from one dealership to another. =) The one I got is sharp though. It's got everything except a sunroof, tint, and fog lights.

I've seen runners without sunroofs and without roof racks, but I have not personally seen one without fogs. I'll bet the factory wiring is there if you want to add them later. A lot of people here don't feel the factory fogs do much anyway. Lots of people add aftermarket fogs.
So what options did you get V6 or V8, 4 wheel drive or not, standard radio or JBL, or nav, SR5 or Sport or Limited or Urban?

Thanks for the quick reply drmorbius! I've already purchased a set of fog lights with the wiring and switch off e-bay. Hopefully it's not too hard to install but if so I'll take it into the dealer to install.

Yeah, it is pretty strange to see one without the fog lights right.

I got the SR5 V6 4x4. It's got the 17" wheels, roof rack, 6 disk CD changer, tow package, 3rd row seating. Black on grey... It's just about everything I wanted... and then some.. I'm gonna remove the 3rd row seating and I've already ordered a cargo cover...

Yep, pretty much all I wanted except the fog lights and window tint.

Is mine the only one? =)

They might call them fog lights but mine being white, they are more useful as close road lights. In my State and City you can't use them most of the time because of stupid laws covering when they can be on.

I think it boils down to what the Dealers in your Country order from Toyota.

Mine was upgraded to the 17" wheels a real good idea.

You made a really good choice going with the 08 SR5 4Runner.:awais:

Yo Marcus. I also have an '07 Stang GT AND just bought an '08 4Runner Sport V6! Any chance you were a member of MustagForums.com?

I'm not sure but the base 4Runner may not come standard with fog lights. Glad to hear you bought a set. I just replaced the stock 9006 bulbs in my fogs with Hella Optilux (bought on ebay). I use these bulbs on the Stang's fogs and I've been using Sylvania Yellowstars (no longer made) in the fogs on my '00 4Runner (yes, thats 2 4Runners and the Stang). The warmer color makes a BIG difference on those really foggy, rainy nights.

Black on Grey? Are they making the two tone option again or is it just grey interior?

Nuke, that's the answer I was looking for. I thought that the fogs might of been standard and I just wasn't lucky enough to get them. It sure would of been nice to have them but I couldn't pass up this deal on a new 08.

Yeah, I'm a member of mustangforum. Yeah, it was hard to let her go but since I'm in the military stationed overseas it's hard for me to leave with 2 vehicles so I opted for the more "Practicle" one. Believe me you, I loved the stang, but it was not the vehicle of choice when it came to the snowboarding trips and camping outings... =) A lot of the guys were giving me a hard time since I was trading in the stang for a "Gas guzzling" SUV... I acutally think I'll get better gas milage with the 4r then the mustang. "Faster car causes heavier foot" =)

Dude, you have 3 4Rs AND a stang? Where do you work and sign me up!

It's a black 4R with the grey interior. I was just trying to be cool there.. =)


Thanks again for the messages gang. I'm sure I'll love her when I finish up all the paperwork next week. What will be nice is that my insurance goes down $500 a year with the new 4R. It's just too bad I didn't get a better trade-in for my mustang with all of what's happening with our big 3 automakers. No regrets though... Got to say that I drove my mustang as fast as I wanted to on the Autobahn.

I recall seeing some pics of what I assume was your car on MF. Sorry that you let her go but there'll be others. Although I don't need to, I'm looking to sell my '00 4Runner.

Actually, Markus, the Stang gets better gas mileage than either of my 4Runners, even when I have my foot in it. I travel about 850 miles round trip at least once, often twice a month and the V8 Stang will typically beat either 4Runner by about 3-4 MPG and sometimes 5-6 if I can be a "good boy" and not chase rabbits and do those 120+ MPH sprints.

No fog lights, either.

My 2003 also doesn't have fog lights. This is something that has bothered me since day one, but even more so after getting a lift, which caused my headlight pattern to be even further away from the front of the car due to the increased height and angle. Unfortunately, the cheapest I can find lights is on ebay for $170 a side, and I really don't have the money to spend $350 on getting it done.

If anyone is looking to sell theirs for a better price, I'm open to suggestions :
