Oh man it is so true for me. I always turn back to look at my truck when I park it. At school, I always use the stairwell that faces where I park so I can see it. Whenever I pass a mirrored building, my eyes are to the side. Also, when my parents use it, I always watch them pull out and get such pride at watching it go. Oh, and I always have to park next to another 4Runner, no matter how far the space if from where I have to be! :p
 
Yup. I always look back at my runner when I walk away. Then I look around to see if anyone saw me looking back. Then I look back at it again. And I also have to park next to another 4runner no matter where it is.
 
I can understand the looking back thing, but needing to park next to another 4Runner is just weird! :p I tend to park away from potential door dings even if it means I have to walk a bit farther.

I'm slowly getting my wife to do the same.
 
Hahaha, when I'm at school I look at my truck while walking to the next class. I park close enough so it can be seen from all the hallways and far enough where there are no other cars parked next to my baby. I thought I was the only paranoid or obsessed whatever you wanna call it.

Sometimes, I even get a space where I can see it from some of my classes. That is 45 minutes of fun!!!! :rocker:
 
im in, just as bad as the rest

I am an old fart at 43 and i admit to doing the same. We are either all very vain people, or we REALLY love our Toyota's.
It is so bad for me that i have only had my new 4Runner 3 weeks and i am already buying the Blackened Head & Tail lights from Japan for my Black Sport just to make mine different and sleaker then the others in town. I haven't done things like this since i was adding on hotrod mods to my 67 Camaro.
 
At work, I constantly look at my truck. (I work at QT, and I can see it from inside, and I do go outside alot too).

I've been staring alot since I got my tint, and I just got my OEM hood scoop. I'll have pics of the tint and hood scoop soon.

There are photos here on compleete install on the Solara Nav system. I got mine from OEMValue.com and it is sitting in the corner waiting on my dimming rear view mirror and auto-matic headlight sensor and reverse camera. When i take that dash apart i am only doing it once. I do want to be ripping apart my dash 3 or 4 times. My luck i will break something.
If you want photos i have ones i downloaded from others here, if you just wanted to see mine, it will be a few weeks. As far as the blackened head/tail lights, J0 here has installed his, they look great with his grey 4runner, i have ordered mine from Steve Ganz Toyota and cannot wait to see how they look on my black sport edition.
 
I guess you guys never read the threads about dings, marks, dirt gives the truck character. You can obsess over it, or realize it's a vehicle and that it will get diry, and marked up. Even more if you off-road.
 
4Runner owners actually are proud of their rides, that's why we keep looking back to make sure they look as good to everybody else as they do to us.

That's just stating the obvious. The whole point is that one must get past the whole thing: it's dirty; it's got a scratch; it has a dent; etc. Otherwise you will drive yourself nuts. Hell I started threads about scratches I put on the car in situations I could have avoided. But you know what it's a vehicle: yes I am proud owner of it, and flat out love it. But in the end it's still just a vehicle.

I got a scratch the first day I got the truck. I do not know how it happened but I was looking at it in my driveway and there was the scratch on the bumper. It hurt but I got over it. I still turn around and admire its good looks!!
 
I park mine just outside of the office where I can keep an eye on it through the window.

It's nice to see people walking through the parking lot and stop to admire my vehicle.

I do the same thing. My office is angled just right so I can see the majority of the parking lot, and I'm lucky I get to park in the same spot most all the time. Gives me peace of mind knowing I can see it all day long.

P.S. What's with the rear headphones? Was that an option?
