argh... how to ship a bumper to Canada?

I live in Canada and want to replace the rusting chrome trim on my front bumper with a new one off eBay. The three vendors selling them now don't ship to Canada. I've confirmed this with them.

One of the big Canadian suppliers doesn't carry them -- even in their warehouse in California. I could contact a Toyota dealer, but I'll bet it'd be a bazillion dollars.

There's an outfit called "Bongo International" that will handle the shipping, but they want $100 for 20 pounds (how heavy is that chrome piece, anyway?). That seems like a lot.

Any ideas? I don't know anyone in the U.S. to help me out.

Any kind souls live in Ogdensburg? I could ship it to you and come pick it up... I live in Ottawa, an hour or so away.

shipping to canada sucks :redbrick:. if you find someone to ship it, see if it can be shipped USPS. UPS is a ripoff for customs and brokerage fees.

that piece of chromes pretty hefty, I'd say 20lbs at least.

If Ogdensburg is close to you, then check to see if they have a parcel service on the US side of the border. Typically what happens is that you address it to your name but their address. When it gets there you cross the border and pick it up and pay a small fee (typically 2-3 USD/package).
Then all you do is claim it upon return to Canada and pay any taxes that they ask for. Depending on the crossing/day/line up they will not charge you taxes if you are under a few hundred dollars though they can start to charge taxes after ~50 I believe.

That's what I did.

I shipped some wheels to someone in canada once and to get them up north wasn't that bad but to cross the border it tripled the price. The guy just had them shipped to the border and drove across and picked them up.

OH, a "parcel service." Hadn't thought of that! I found one in Ogdensburg.

After some more web searching, I think I may have finally found tha part in Canada, too. So I've got a couple of options.

As said above, avoid UPS. Their shipping price is deceiving because they don't include the customs brokerage.
I've had good luck with large items at a reasonable price with FedEx Ground (not regular FedEx.) The bigger issue is getting a seller who wants to cross border ship.
