Well i havent been too many places, im new to the whole 4runner\truck\off roading thing. I went with some friends and hit the Table Mesa Trail up north. But yea id be down for a club.

Finally starting to get some responses. That's awesome!! I live in North Scottsdale off of DeerValley and Scottsdale Rd. I'm installing my 3/2 cornfed next weekend. I should be getting my Mud-Terrains installed about the same time. After that, game on!! Now that the weather has finally cooled down, we should definitely plan a day off-roading somewhere. Coke Ovens sounds cool. You have to go through Box Canyon to get to them if I'm not mistaken. That would be worth the trip. Let's see what we can get planned. I'm open to any ideas all of you may have. Thanks for taking the time to read and reply to this post.
I was just up there today (Florence Junction). There are two ways to get to the Coke Ovens, from the North or the South. The South Way is easier, but the North way is a lot more fun.
To get there the North way you drive south about 5 miles from the intersection of US60/AZ 79 and make a left at a flagpole. This is the route for Martinez Cabin. It's very easy to get lost around this area and I hit the Woodpecker trail by accident. Didn't take me that long to figure it out once I approached 3 foot boulders.
Anyway, you keep going on Martinez Cabin trail and you eventually hit the turn off for the Coke Ovens trail. When you come back from the Coke Ovens you can go south through Box Canyon and eventually hit AZ 79 and go north back home.
I'm not sure if a stock 4Runner could make it through without relying on skid plates and/or rock sliders. I don't have either but do have a 3/2 lift and 32" tires. I knocked my gas tank skid pretty decently but that's what it's made for.
This is me accidentally going on Woodpecker and scurrying back with my tail between my legs. I was wondering why all of the ATVers were looking at me funny.
This is the hardest part of Martinez Cabin, it's pretty unnerving driving it for your first time. But it's actually not too hard.
Another shot of my climbing down the ledge. My passenger side rear tire is actually about a foot off the ground. Gotta love that feeling when your truck starts to tip.

That second shot is not Martinez Cabin. Thats a waterfall on the main road. You can go in and out of The Box if you want....You just start at price road instead of Cotton Wood Canyon Road (Flag Pole Entrance) The first pic is the beginning of Lower Woodpecker. Did you check out the Petroglyph's(SP) at the end of LW??

Luckily my wife is a decent spotter, I didn't expect as many rocks/obstacles on the main trail as there were. It was fun!
About 50 yards past the fun part...LOL(Big Rocks). When you went back and around LW there is a sign off to your left that starts a hiking trail to them. Have not been out there since March so the sign may have been vandalized by now......:bash:

Sure...I'll lead. There is a big Jeep thing out there this weekend. Not sure if they are going to do the ovens. But might be a little crowded. Maybe the weekend after?? I know it's Halloween and all...but I dunno....Up to you guys.

Yea my sr5 is stock and only 2wd. i wish i would have gotten the 4wd now that ive been out folling around a little. those trails look nice. Im working on getting skid plates, i found the front one on ebay for not too bad price $117, but i havent seen a rear one yet. I cant go for a few weeks, got halloween with the kids, then my bday, then we're going camping up at Bartlett, but i will be down after that, if i can make any of those trails...haha

I think you could maybe do these trails in 2WD, maybe need a tug though? I did hear my ATRAC kick in though so I'm not certain.

Yea ill be camping that weekend of the 14,15,16th. I did fine when i was out on Table Mesa trail. Im ordering my firestone destination M\t's ina couple weeks, so that will help a little, not much, but a little....haha
