Arkansas Icy Roads, Pics!

Was going duck hunting...got about 90 miles in nasty road conditions to find that all but one of my buddies backed out on me! I said to heck w/ the last weekend, I would rather be snowed in w/ my wife! Here's a few pics, the
4runner did AWESOME in the snow/ice! I love the trac control and VSC. Seriously. It does it's job well. When I wanted to spin the tires, I just locked the center diff. Enjoy the pics!

Wow, yall got a good bit more than us. It wasn't until dark we started getting any accumalation. I hope to get some pics in the morning. The drive home from work was awesome! I was amazed at the 4runner's abilities. The VSC really helped keep me in control (was playing around a good bit). When I kicked in the center diff, I saw what it'd really be like without it. It's not much as compared to some of you guys, but it's rare here (we get 1-2 snows a year). There was a solid layer of ice underneath the snow, so it made for a slippery day. 12guns, nice 4runner by the way (and may I add I also have a Foreman!).

Yeah I know. I was stationed down in Alabama a few years back. It was funny cause they were closing the schools at noon on Monday for some possible snow on Tuesday. The whole post closed down and they wouldn't let us go anywhere. I showed em pictures of me out playing in three feet of snow, but they still wouldn't let me drive on barely enough snow to turn it white.

Not my first snow by no means. I've driven in worse, however in AR it's rare that we have enough to stick to the roads. Like swaprider said, there was about .5" of sleet/ice between my tires and the road and it was quite slick at times.
My puppy is 13 weeks old and lovin' life! He's full on energy and LOVES running and romping in the snow. He's crashed now after a long day of playing!

ARK SWAMP RIDER: Funny, you're going to school in the same town where I live, you have a v8 4runner, and you have a Foreman! We'll have to get to work on our lifts soon!

Yep! I just ordered mine today, so I'll be ready whenever. We'll definitley have to get together sometime. About 30 minutes south/southeast we missed most of it, but we're getting some now. Can't wait for the morning!!!

Haha, that's funny! Our biggest deal is that none of us are ever prepared. We don't have enough snow to justify true snow tires, so most of us are running around on regular highway tires. This doesn't help at all.

Edit: I've had the FJC front springs. I ordered a Toytec top plate spacer. It's listed on their site to give 3/4" of lift, but actually should give closer to 1".

:iagree: 100%, all the high-tech traction acronyms are awesome and as you say if you don't want it shut it off. I don't want to be in the business of slamming 5th gens but I will say Toyota got it right with the t-case features*** of the 4th gen (especially '08-'09 w/ factory VSC off).



*** I said 'features'. I wish they did a better job of engineering out the 'use it or lose it' aspect of the t-case.

Yes, I DO need airbags!!! This was the first time I loaded up all my gear w/ the trailer and hit the road. All the ice buildup on the trailer and 4runner added ALOT of weight, but I still think I will need airbags for the future.
I just bought a new hitch, 10,000 lb forged 1" drop along w/ a 8,000 lb ball. Figured I need to get the most out of my 7k towing capacity! Anyway, I'll flip the insert over to get a bit of rise. That should help w/ the trailer being more level. Airbags will come later. I'm running 13" wheels right now on the trailer and might even try 12" to get it a touch lower. I don't need to extra ground clearance very often. Only down side is I think the 12" tires are only 4 ply?? Lower lb rating... Maybe I better stick w/ 13".

IDK on the tires thing. I've got the OEM rear air setup on my 4runner and love it! I don't tow often, but it really makes a huge difference. I don't believe they aftermarket setups are "that" expensive, may want to look at one for when we do the lift.

wow... you should brush the snow off your runner before you drive it. It is always annoying when getting dusted by someone's snow on their cars. Not to mention getting dusted by your own snow on your hood could be a hazard to you and reduce your visibility.

I started to, but it was caked on and I was going literally less than 1/4 mile at ~15mph so it wasn't an issue.
