i have a 94 v6.
for the past month or so, there is the occasional (and all too frequent) time when i accelerate to highway speeds, the trans sticks (in 4th?) and revs in the whereabouts of 3k+ rpms.
what i have found to remedy this is to either speed up faster (sometimes going into the 65-70mph range before it shifts), or simply slowing down to 30-40mph range before speeding up again. once it does make that shift, though, there are no problems the rest of the trip. i've checked the tranny fluid and it is full and looks fine. i also went and added a JB transmission conditioner with no improvements.
this only seems to happen when it's relatively cold. i bought my truck in june from washington state and brought it back to minnesota, where it will stay for awhile. i'm worried that it may be, or may develop into a larger problem. any assistance is appreciated.
and on a side note, some other issues:
--- since i bought the truck, there has been (what sounds to be) a buzzy-type rattle from around the shifter case (passenger side?). ironically enough, it never happened when i brought it into the shop. it doesn't seem to hinder any performance, just my sanity. any ideas?
--- acceleration is usually poor, starting can take 4-5 seconds on a crank. added Lucas fuel system cleaner, checked dist. cap, spark plug wires (would've checked spark plugs, but it looked like a job for superman). my next thought is the fuel filter. i bought it from a toyota dealer, so i'd think that they would've replaced it... but who knows? any other possibilities?
--- there's a shimmy when i begin to brake at speeds above 30mph. had alignment checked (possibly, only the front was checked), checked out fine. tires inflated correctly. pretty sure the balance is correct. there's a weak suspension in the back due to the long, fully-loaded haul (with trailer) from WA->MN that i'm ready to replace. might that weak suspension have something to do with the shake? what else should i look for?
