AT/P light came on?

My car won't move when it's in D and the 4wd lever is in N, but if I engage 4wd and then put it in D the car drives like it's in 4low. When I put 4wd in N and put the car in P a red light pops up on the side saying AT/P also when I shift the 4wd lever I occasionally here a grinding noise

Someone help please I hit a bump with the bottom of my car last night and I think it might have damaged the transfer case?

Well I figured out what the A/T P light actually is,
Still have a problem my 4wd won't disengage and when I'm in Drive and 4wd is in Neutral my car won't move help?

the A/T p light just means your transfer case is in neutral. you gotta keep in in 4hi but with the 4WD button disengaged. you'll notice if your parked on a slope, if your transfer case is in neutral your truck wont even go in park it will be rollin

I figured since no one replied to 3 of my posts no one was interested in what I had to say so I didn't post my solution.

My car was stuck in 4WD and everytime I would shift from H2-H4-L4 I hear some kind of grind or something Im not really sure how to explain it because Ive never heard of this problem but my car wouldn't move, I just shifted from the different gears in 4WD and finally got the transfer case to Neutral and the car drives fine now

none of this makes sense to me, if your transfer case is in neutral then your rig wouldnt move cause your in neutral... are you sure you know how to work the transfer case, and what position is what with it? that A/T P light has a few different uses, as stated above and it will also come on if you over heat your trans above 300* when you tried shifting the transfer case around were you stationary or was the vehicle moveing? where you in gear or in park or neutral(transmission) if your in gear and try to shift the transfer case sometimes it will grind, id suggest reading the owners manual and brushing up on how to use the 4wd in your rig just some food for though fwiw

I've used the 4wd plenty of times with no issues Im not too sure what exactly happened which is why I posted the thread but after messing around with the lever I managed to disengage the 4wd now everything is normal. I know this probably doesn't make sense to y'all because I'm still trying to figure it out too

I'm having the same issue and the manual is of no help in explaining "how" to get out of 4wd. Foot on brake, or no? Etc, etc.

Car is currently stuck in my driveway. Any advice gladly accepted at this point.

I've found that it's better to go into park. The last couple times I tried shifting the transfer case in neutral, I had grinding. I started doing it park and haven't had problems yet. If it doesn't want to shift fully, put it back and move the truck a tiny bit. Sometimes that just means letting off the brake and rolling into the park gear.

4wd is electric and should come out as long as the button isn't depressed and it's in hi range. Without modification, you can't shift out of 4wd in low range.

Can someone please help, I have a 2001 4runner 4wd my AT/P Light is on. I cant reverse or drive. When I was in Park the car still rolled so I have it parked in front of my business with the emergency brake on. Very frustrated this is my first 4runner so any help would be amazing.

Is the transfer case in neutral? Try 4 hi if it is.

When I try to push to 4hi it grinds. When you go to put it in park it grinds. What in the world is going on.

Are you pushing firmly and quickly between hi/lo? Can't be a slow engagement, things are spinning a bit and just need to find their place QUICKLY. Luck. :cowboy:

When I first got my truck this happened when I was trying to figure out 4wd I assume u turned your 4wd on while on pavement and at a complete stop and tried to see if 4 lo works for no reason with that said what got my truck out of neutral from the transfer case If I remember correctly the truck rolled backwards a tiny bit with the truck in drive hopefully that will help u
