At what point does price and time matter more than color

So this last week I've been emailing and calling Toyota dealers across this state and colorado looking for a white 2014 TE premium. I found one a couple hours away for a decent price ($36,600 with KDSS). More importantly, they are willing to give me damn near what I want for my f150 I'll be trading in. Well, just a little bit ago, they called and said the white 4runner sold. Crap! I should've put a hold on it but I didn't. They offered me a mag grey TE premium w/KDSS for $36k even plus a little more for my trade. They have been friendly, prompt, and they are searching for a white TE but haven't found any yet.

So my question is, would you accept a different color for more of a discount? How much of a discount would it take for you to accept a different color?

The only dealers that can get close to their price are a lot further away. I originally wanted black but now I want white but I guess mag grey would be ok too for the right price. Help me, I'm on the fence here!

It is entirely up to you, I originally wanted a black LE, I even was told they (the dealership that I bought the car from had one) I drove 425 miles to go pick it up and when I got there they said the black one had sold :argue:..........BUT they had a shoreline blue one in the store, it looked sooooooo pruddy I opted for the Blue instead.
IMHO I think the mag gray is one of the best colors, however if your off roading a lot through dry brush your going to want a white TE.
To me I only see the hood when I drive, it's what's INSIDE that tickles your fancy.

To me, it would really depend on whether the color they're offering the discount on is a color I truly like.

I think you should hold out and get the exact color and trim level you want, I wouldn't want to settle on a purchase $ that big.

The discount is irrelevant. The key question is this:

Are you the kind of person who wants what you want....period. If so you may well spend the next few years having the enjoyment of your rig dampened every time you drive by a white 4 Runner.

Personally I advise people to not to settle, because the question of whether you should have waited will always be in the back of your mind somewhere. Unless you need a T4R NOW, try again and widen your search more into other states. For example there's a white Premium TE in Alhambra (suburb of LA), one in Chula Vista (suburb of San Diego), one in Dallas the other direction from you, and two in Katy, Texas.

You can always settle later, and it's not like this mag grey rig is the only other deal possible.

Well in your case, there doesn't appear to be much of a difference. If you were talking a few thousand dollars, yeah ok, go with your 2nd choice colour. If they're only offering a few hundred extra, I'd say get the colour you want.

In my case I could have either bought a 2013 or a brand new leftover for savings somewhere around $3-$5,000 (hard to say exactly because I didn't really haggle on the 2013. I figure it's closer to $5k savings). Went with a leftover after I beat hem down on it and that's why I drive a Shoreline Blue- a beautiful colour on a sunny day. My colour of choice was Silver or Black. The beauty of it all is I still got a brand new vehicle (had about 120 miles on it) and saved a lot of my hard earned after tax dollars :).

As others have said, don't settle. Done that a few times and ALWAYS seemed to regret it. Hold out and get what you want!

Wait for what you want. I just got mine on Monday and was window shopping for a few months before getting serious. When I finally got serious two dealers had whites trail premiums but I wanted black. One dealer almost had me talked into white. Black was my first choice then mag grey then white. Well the white trail sold and the salesman told me it would be tough to get a black or mag grey in but he had a line on another white one at a different dealer he was going to trade with. He traded and as soon as the white one came in a black one showed up. Took a week for the black one to ship from OR but it came in and it's awesome.
 
I think you guys are right about not settling. However,

One other thing on my mind is, my 2012 f150 ecoboost has been acting up again. I've been keeping an eye on the oil level and lately it has been rising and stinks of gas. I'm out of warranty. I'm afraid if I keep it much longer I may be paying for repairs. Ford hasn't been much help either. Anyway, I'm just tired with this truck. Time to move on.

I would say do not settle, but with the gamble of the Ford dieing, even I would not want to gamble on Ford and lose the deal. If you are even asking the question, then I think you are willing to take choice #2.

1. Yes I do like the mag grey. I wanted a mag grey SE pretty bad when I bought my black '08 SR5 in 2008. Kind of the same thing going on back then. Found a couple good deals but before we couple put a cash hold on them, they were gone. My SR5 wasn't exactly what we wanted but the deal was too good to pass up plus my wife's car was literally falling apart. 6 years later the SR5 has been good to us. We've had it across the US numerous times in all sorts of weather. We love it.

2. Possibly. When I used to see mag grey SE 4th gens I would kind of regret getting my black SR5. I'm over that now.



Another question:
I want to get some black wheels for whatever 2014 TE I end up with. What is everyone's opinion with regards to black wheels on a magnetic grey 2014? Yay or nay?

IMHO...Trail wheels are b-e-a-u-tiful and bad**s

But if you have to put other wheels on new Magnetic Gray Trail, the TRD wheels would look very sharp.....once again IMO. Ok, they are not black. Black wheels would look great on a white or MG. You can't go wrong.
 
Also magnetic grey has a cleacoat, the white isn't cleacoated. Which will probably last longer,and able to buff out light scratches.
In the end get what you like and don't settle, but if grey is your 2nd choice and you can get a better deal, go for it, or you might lose that one too.
 
There's always plasti dip and vinyl wrap :biggrin2: If you like the Mag get it. If you think there will be regret hold out for white. I thought I was sold on a silver trail. Week after the purchase they got a shoreline blue trail in and I was ready to swap rides haha. Kept the silver because I still love it and I'm pretty sure the wife would have killed me and buried me in a shallow hole haha.

Yeah I like the trail wheels too. I'm planning on putting them on my 4th gen. The SE wheels that I have on my 4th gen recently started to shed their clearcoat plus I want a wheel that has a little less backspacing on my 4th gen.

I'm supposed to go look at the mag grey TE today......
