Finally installed my Tundra brakes!

Figured since I was replacing my front differential seals that I would go ahead and install the Tundra brakes. These brakes are awesome!!!

Hey man i like the bulid so far, i was wondering what you use for rust prevention. Looks like you take it on the beach a lot and i herd that kills you with rust. Also Is that salt water? :violin:

Ah that's great news!!! How's the difference in breaking power?

Edit: It just hit me. Are those wheel spacers?

The braking power is at least 50% better than it was. Keep in mind, my brakes were Sh!++y and thats and under statement. My recommendation is DO IT.

Yes they are 1.25" IIRC and they are worth the money. I didn't try to fit the wheels over the calipers without the spacers but I will try that next time I have to remove the wheels for what ever reason.

I currently don't use anything for rust prevention as my 4Runner is originally from Massachusetts and had some pretty bad rust issues to begin with. I am slowly replacing and repairing all the rusty parts (i.e. rear frame section, bumpers, rear brakes back plate and components, etc). The body is like 99% rust free so Im lucky there. I think when finally move and have time I'm going to use POR-15 as kind of a base coat and 3M undercoating on top of that. I actually don't go on the beach that often and when I do I prefer to avoid the water. That was just a rookie mistake. :bigok:

Yeah man, that'd be great if you could test fit them without the spacers! Definitely no rush though haha. Thanks!

Hard to find Specs, Info & Measurements on 231mm 13WL Tundra Calipers & Rotors It states that the width of the 4Runner calipers and the Tundra calipers are the same with (inboard to outboard-6 1/8"). It also states that the 6 Spoke FJ wheels will fit over the calipers without spacers but it doesn't specify "TRD or not." It does however specify TRD Ivan Stewart Wheels. FWIW, the only things that gave me trouble were the caliper mounting bolts and the solid brake lines. The ears on the Tundra caliper are 3.05mm thinner than the 4Runner calipers so the bolts (like everything else on my 4Runner) were rusty where the threads were exposed. At first I thought the bolts bottomed out and there was still about 1mm gap between the caliper ears and the base of the bolt head. I soon realized that the bolts just needed to be turned a few more times. Also, when I removed the brake lines from the old calipers the passenger side just twisted off. I just got new 6" lines from a local O'Reilly Auto Parts.

Well I knew the rust on my truck was bad but:dammit:! I broke off the driver side LCA on the rear axle today. Just driving on a dirt road with the occasional pot hole. I just picked up the materials to fix it and I'm gonna get to work on it in the AM. Really hoping this works out.

Well I got the LCA reattached today and it is sturdy for sure. Not the prettiest welds in the world but not that bad since this is my first welding project ever. I was also using a Flux Core 90 amp welder from Harbor Freight so it has quite a bit of splatter that I still need to clean up. I'll post finishing pics tomorrow.

Its pretty bad. I'm on the fence of selling it or slowly working on it when its not my daily driver anymore. I know that I can do the work. I just dont want to. I really dont like having to fix things constantly. I literally cannot take this thing on the trail which defeats the purpose.

Wow! I would check around and think about a frame swap? See if you can pick up a cheap Runner from the South somewhere that has been interior rotting because some white trash didn't take care of it, and blew the motor up, and had an ex wife jump on the hood, trailer that mug home, and swap your clean top on to the frame. Bet you can find a cheap frame on car-part.com also? ..... Just checked, you can have one for anywhere between 300 and 1000.....

had rust in the same spot , fixed mine with 1/8 '' steel and box the whole frame out , can be fixed .

Repairing it might be a bit much. You might be better off doing what Beachwagon mentioned. You would probably spend less time doing a frame swap.

I like the idea of swapping a frame out but I'm about to move and dont have the time right now. Maybe once I get to TX. I'm just not sure that it's worth the trouble and money. Here are some pics of my work. Not completely boxed in yet. I was in a bit of a rush and could only reattach the LCA mount.

Dont say a thing about my welds. Them's fightn' words!!!:vader:
