Attn offroaders...

Do any of your have a sort of emergency tote with supplies you keep in your runner? Something like a BOB but will serve the same purpose when camping or wheelin. I'm thinking stuff like first-aid kit, some food, flash light, etc. I always kept a first-aid kit, water and dog food (not for me, stray dogs) in my cars but now that I have a 4wd and plan on doing some exploring I thought that my kit may need updating. I need some ideas.

What do you guys keep in your rigs?

A really good first aid kit...splints, bandages, combat bandages (helps clotting), rolled cotton bandages, scissors, tons of tape, cravats, tourniquets. And other assorted things like cortizone (for bug bites), sunblock, allergy meds, tylenol, ibuprofen, paracord...

If you don't know what some of those things are take an intermediate first-aid course. Save your life.

well, this is one of those question where if you ask 10 different people, you might get ten different answers.

Exploring = offroading???

First and foremost...if you are going to be out where you don't see other people for days...then don't go alone. And I don't mean take someone with you...I mean another vehicle. The buddy system as it were.

Now, having said that...when I ventured out for my cross county trip (alone) that included some offroading...here is what I brought with me...

1 large heavy duty plastic bin to contain:
first aid kit...two of them
fire extinguisher
2 MREs
2 gallons and 1 24pack of water
sleeping bag
tow chain
tow strap
MORE power puller winch
tarp
garbage bags
jumper cables
booster pack with compressor
GPS unit
maps
Leatherman
vise grips
bungee cords
duct tape
nylon tie wraps
extra clothes
camera
cell phone w/ charger (I got the 115Vac outlet!)
water jug (empty)
one time use gas container
hose repair kit
belt repair kit
survival combo axe/shovel
extra fluids
flares
backpack
cash
extra credit card
two flashlights
AAA membership
380 semiauto

and a partridge in a pear tree...can't remember of anything else off the top of my head...

Surprisingly, I didn't have any real tools other than the vise grips...hmmm.

But seriously, you can never have too much...especially if going out alone.

By the way, if need be, you can survive on dog food...dog biscuits aren't that bad with just a little bit of jelly...

What I mean by exploring is going offroading and checking out trails I may have spotted. Besides the first aid kit, I want something I can always keep with me incase I go exploring and I break down and need to hike back or possibly stay overnight. I just assume keep it with me at all times, or atleast some of it. I would obviously pack more for a camping trip/offorading trip but I do things spur of the moment sometimes.
jw that is a great list and gives me some good ideas! thank you.

having a CB is nice if you can't get a cell signal.... I like having my off road GPS but if I am stuck and can't tell anyone my location than I am still SOL.

A Spot is a good investment too.

I believe he was referring to a spot light. I always have a mini shovel too...just thought I would add to the list.

I generally keep a first aid kit, small survival kit, several blankets, flashlight, multitool, air compressor. Of course if doing any serious off road would need to beef that up...

Spot = Spot GPS Messenger.

Good way to call for help if you ever need it, I carry one.

Awesome! I'll have to check on one of those.

Between this thread and the link above, I've got what I think is a pretty good list for myself. My wife works in an ER so we have alot of first aid stuff already and I have quite abit of other stuff too. I'm gonna try and put something together in the next week or so and I'll post up pics and look for some constructive criticism. A couple hundred minds are better than one!
