Audio from Google Maps (Android) with connected phone and FM audio source?

Just got a new Samsung Galaxy S9, and am getting used to using it with Bluetooth and my 4R (my first vehicle with BT).

I can get audio GPS directions via Bluetooth/Google maps when my phone is synched and audio source on the head unit is set to Bluetooth, but not when the audio source is FM.

Anyone know if it's possible to get Google Maps audio directions over Bluetooth, with FM as the source? If so, what is the trick?

No I'm pretty sure you can only get the phones audio while in BT or USB sources.

I don't believe so because you selected a specific audio source on the 4Runner. To get by this, I setup Google Maps to give notifications via phone speaker instead via bluetooth. But phone calls continue to go to the 4Runner's hands free system. It will mute your FM while taking the call.

This might work...

keep your headunit on Bluetooth, and use TuneIn Android app, within Android Auto to stream FM stations.

If I have a general idea of where I'm headed I switch to whatever music source I want. When I need to hear specific directions I switch to BT...But to answer your question, BT and FM are two different sources, no way to hear both at the same time.

One feature the iOS version of Waze has that Android doesn't is you can have the Waze give you directions out of the phone speaker while paired via bluetooth to the vehicle and on a non-BT source. So you can listen to FM, get calls/texts over the vehicle speakers, and get directions from your phone. I really with the Android version of Waze had that option.

you can make google maps play from your phone speaker the same as waze, in fact [MENTION=167067]SidKo[/MENTION] already recommended this 3 posts up

In Google Maps go to Settings -> Navigation -> uncheck "Play voice over Bluetooth"

The easiest way is to just turn off bluetooth when using the NAV feature. Those apps sound interesting though

This. 4runner source to FM, select phone audio out for Maps. Also recommend download offline maps in Google Maps for your region. Offline maps helps acquire directions faster. If you hit a dead zone maps will keep navigating. I've found Offline Maps to be off by 100ft( no cell service) . Still accurate enough for driving. I also download offline maps for where ever I'm traveling too. Be sure to rename the offline maps in the offline area. Offline maps will need to update about every 30 days.
