Audio Help? Pioneer AVH-X1500DVD

Hello Everyone,

Been lurking on here for quite a while and finally picked up an 03" 2WD SR5 Sport back in October.

First thing I bought for it was the Pioneer AVH-X1500DVD. I had an older version in my Impreza and loved it, never had any issues.

I ordered the unit from Crutchfield and was originally sent the wrong wiring harness, so I decided to wire it directly into the factory harness using charts I found on here.

All of the features work perfectly but there is a high pitch frequency noise coming from all 4 speakers. The noise does not change at different volumes or RPM and sound quality is still great. The noise happens when the engine is running or just in accessory mode. When I turn the unit off, the noise is gone.

I contacted Crutchfield for advice and they came to the conclusion that it had to be a unit problem, so they sent me a new unit and I'm still getting the noise out of the new unit.

Originally I soldered the connections and used electrical tape to cover each connection completely. After the new unit had the same issue, I re-connected each wire using butt-connectors and covered each connection with electrical tape again... and that solved nothing.

Like I said, the unit works perfectly but the noise is just a bit irritating and I would love to figure out how to get rid of it.

Anyone experience something similar before? Any suggestions/help much appreciated.

They make big capacitors to put across the main radio power leads, some have a series coil as well. That would stop alternator noise, but that type noise should change pitch with rpm.

Perhaps you have a 120vac inverter running which is feeding noise back into the power mains? The above cap and coil will stop it. I'm assuming the high pitch noise is there whether you are on radio or cd. That would rule out RF noise and point to electrical noise coming in on the main power to the head unit and/or speaker amp if it is separate.

I put the same radio in my 2007. I bought the radio in town and had them do the wiring harness but I installed it. Mine did the same thing yours is so I took it back to them and after some arguing I decided to try a Kenwood didn't make noise but needed like 20 connectors to Use my Phone with it so I told them to wire up the Pioneer again because i liked it. Didn't make any noise at all they only thing we changed was the wiring harness. Since yours is just wired directly just check your wiring I guess im still kind of puzzled with mine.
