Audio Issue: Please Help

I had a local shop do the installation of my Pioneer AVH-X2600BT stereo. About two months after having it installed I noticed that sometimes I would turn my car on and there would be no sound but the radio was on and working. If I turned my car off and back on the sound would immediately come back. I called the shop and they told me to bring it in and they would replace the module to the stereo. After doing this I had no issues for about a month, but now the same issue is back. I don't think two brand new modules would go bad that fast but IDK what else it could be. They did install a bypass where I could watch video while driving if I wanted (wanted mostly fro my son to watch videos in the back) but IDK if that would cause the issue or not. Has anyone else had a similar issue and if so what did you do to resolve it? Thanks in advance.

What's your level of experience with this type of stuff? Seems to be an electrical/wiring issue to me. My initial guess would be bad/intermittent ground (but that would likely kill power to the radio as well). Does your head unit drive your speakers, or do you have an aftermarket amplifier doing that? If aftermarket amp, then check for bad/intermittent ground. Most of the grounds I've seen done by an installer were fairly crass. The amp in my 3rd gen is grounded to the parking brake bolt underneath the center console.

Other troubleshooting steps you can try:
1) Re-install factory head unit (if problem persists, you have a wiring issue somewhere; if problem solved, then replace the head unit again--maybe with a different model/brand)
2) Remove the video bypass (if problem persists, continue troubleshooting; if problem solved, double- and triple-check the wiring for the bypass to confirm continuity where/when needed)

I would take it back to the shop again before you start working on it yourself, once you tear into it they wash there hands of it. JMHO

I did my own stereo installation and I used whatever the wiring harness was that Crutchfield sent...I think it was a Metra but I'm not sure. Anyway, my stereo does this same thing periodically and all you need to do is flip your key to start for a second. It won't engage the stater if your car is already running but it will re-initiate the stereo.

I know it's not a perfect fix but I also know I don't have any loose wires or anything back there; it's just a problem inherent to using an interface between a new head unit and the existing amplifier in the 4Runner.

In short: it's a pain but I don't think it's a big enough problem to go back for a third adapter.

Thanks for all of the advice guys. I think I may just try the key trick and see if that works the next time it happens. If not it's definitely going back to the shop. I don't mind losing the video bypass too much really but my install is under a lifetime warranty. Thanks again for all of the help.

I am using my stock amplifier so maybe that is an issue. I've replaced the sub as it was blown with a 8'' Rockford Fosgate that I installed myself. May be time to look at an aftermarket amp. Thanks again for the help/advice.

Problem seems to have resolved itself as I haven't had the issue at all lately. I will take a picture if it happens again. Thanks.
