Audio Options Questions (2006 SE)

Hey everyone,

I'm new here, but have been lurking for about a month now. Finally registered and have a question which I hope someone can answer for me once and for all:

I have a 2006 Sport V6 and this came with the 6 In-Dash CD player, which I believe is a JBL. Anyway, I am currently listening to my iPod via the console plug using a male-to-male headphone cable from Radio Shack. What I would like to do is have this directly plugged into my radio to gain volume and clarity. I would ALSO like to install Sirius, the latter being more important. Is there a way I can do both?

A few post have mentioned the Scion HUs: If I were to obtain one of these, do they come in 6-CD formats. Also, would I be able to install any Sirius radio?

Basically, I know nothing about electronics and am trying to do this both practically and economically. Essentially, I was thinking about getting a new Scion head unit (3 knob) and then "plugging" in both a Sirius unit (Clarion Calypso) and my iPod. Would this work?

You can't use the SCION unit with your JBL system as they are not compatible. JBL has an externally mounted amp, while the SCION has the amp built in.

Also your IPOD is directly plugged into your head unit. The previous model 4runners didn't have an headphone input jack so we had to buy 3rd party auxilliary units.

I'm not too familiar with the 2006 models so I'm not sure of your SIRIUS question.

I have both Sirius and an IPOD running into the same audio jack in my truck. I bought a Monster Cable splitter from Radio Shack for like 15 bucks and I have both of them hooked up. I just turn one or the other off. I don't think you can plug the IPOD into the head unit without some type of adapter, though.

If your radio is the JBL, it will have a mid-channel speaker in the middle of your dash as well as a sub in the back cargo area and speakers in the rear roof pillars where my 2006 Sport, unfortunately, has these funky little mirrors. When I tried to plug my XM SKYFi2 radio into the Ipod jack using the Radio Shack cord male-male cord, I got poor volume and audible engine noise. Fortunately my SKYFi2 has an excellent wireless FM modulation system which works fine.

iPod / Sirius solution

Yes.. you can input your iPod directly into your fact. JBL stereo using the dock connector on the iPod. Not only that but it will charge and control the iPod as well. About the Sirius tuner... I sell Factory Sirius tuners that work on 05-06 4Runners with a SAT. button on the radio. Belive it.
