I have a 2002 toyota 4runner limited. I would like to upgrade the speakers. I bought a set of Polk Audio DB 6500 (6.5 inch). I don't know how to get them to fit in my front door speakers. I also bought Polk Audio DB 525 (5.25 inch) The speaker is too deep to fit into the stock rear speaker door space. What should I do to make it fit. I would also like to add an amp. I don't want to change my factory stereo. Is there a built in amp under the passenger seat? Do I have to remove it to put in another amp? Please help.

Crutchfield Stereo has an online "what fits what" that is a big help. If you buy from them they supply all adapters, detailed instructions, wiring pigtails and technical support. They are a class act - but not the cheapest source.

Im pretty sure ebay has speaker adapters that allow you to put the deeper speakers in.

If you want to add an amp to your stock deck then you will need one of these:
Fosgate

or

JL Audio

Or similiar...

Out of curiosity why do you want to keep your stock deck?

If you want to keep the stock deck and get AMAZING sound get a JL Clean Sweep. Also Crutchfield is WAY overpriced sometimes by $100+. However you do not have to get an expensive signal processor to simply add an amp you just need a line out converter. If uses your speaker signals to create a line output. It wont sound as good but it is pretty cheap. (Around $50) Some people can't tell the difference however. Just to put my two cents in I have heard plenty of systems in SPL competition. The one I remember as my favorite had Focal speakers and Audison amps. If that is too expensive do JL all around.

Yeah the hi low converters will work, it's just a personal preference with me. I think they are kind of a band aid way to do it. Definitely a cheaper way to go if cost is a consideration.

Yeah I agree I would go with the clean sweep over a converter any day.

The JL Cleansweep isn't really designed for cars like the 4runner... they are more designed for cars where you can't replace the radio without extensive labor and lots of $$$. The cleansweep is $300 retail... you can get a killer radio that looks good in the dash of an 02 for well under that. But you could do that if you wanted...

Crutchfield is good and only good if you have no idea what you are doing. They send instructions with everything they sell, but their prices are full retail. I guess they are good too because they are actually a legit online dealer that you don't have to worry about warranty issues, etc.

You can get a standard LOC for around $15....anything more expensive is a rip off.
