I just noticed a strange problem last weekend when making an extended trip (90 minutes). About 30-40 minutes into the drive, the audio for my stereo would cut out for a few seconds the first time, then for maybe 20 seconds the second time, and then finally, it would just cut out completely.
During this time, the radio is still powered on, volume controls are non-responsive but I can change sources and power off/on the radio - both of which don't fix the problem.
Cycling the key doesn't help.
Turning off the radio and waiting some time (10-20 min) seems to fix it temporarily, then it will shut off again after about 10 min.
Doesn't seem to be any difference WRT the volume control. Having it at 10 or 30 makes no difference, it still cuts out with the same frequency.
I have a subwoofer powerd by a Punch 250a that connects to the stock amp in the back passenger side. I have had it this way for a year and haven't had any problems. I mention this cause when the sound stops, the sub stops too.
I'm thinking it's the stock amp. Since it's a digital connection, the volume control on the HU is actually controlling the amp and not the HU directly, right?? So when the amp cuts out, the volume controls don't work anymore.
This is an 07 Lim 4R. 6 CD JBL stock system, other than the Sub and amp.
I haven't tried yet, but I want to make sure it's reproducible by just sitting in my driveway and leave the radio on for an hour and see if it happens. Then I'll have the dealer repro it so they don't think I'm hearing things.
What do you all think the problem could be? Is there a breaker in the amp that needs to be repaired (or just replace the amp) cause it's getting to0 hot? It has been quite hot here the last week : 90-105.
