Audio Sound level- Cool Idea

New member
Driving my 06 tonight and noticed something. I thought maybe my mini headphone wire had a short. Or maybe the jack was faulty. Just got it 5 days ago! So that would have stunk...
It ends up being something call ASL or ALS. My 04 didn't have this and also seemed noisier on the highway. I am told it has thicker glass. In anycase, the audio increases and decreases with the speed of the car! Pretty cool. Now, in my house I have forced air and I find myself increasing the volume on the TV set and when it shuts off I have to turn it back down again. Maybe Toyota should make tvs......I'd buy one.

My 01 Alero had this also and I loved that feature! It's one of those things that you don't really notice until you don't have it anymore. I wish the 05's had it too. Anytime you speed up and there's more road noise the volume goes up. I guess it's linked to the speedometer. Once you hit certain speeds it turns up the volume to compensate for the extra road/wind noise. Defiantely an awesome feature that I miss from my piece of junk Alero :D!
 
yup its a intersting feature, my pioneer HU has it and i like how the meter goes up as the sound level changes. Really keeps my sound louder than the ambient noise from the road.

Ha! I felt gypped when the newer V6 got the 5 speed auto.
 
I had a rental (an Olds Alero, I believe) that had this audio feature, and I honestly found it to be really annoying. Maybe some systems have better versions, but this one always turned the volume down so far when I got to a light, I could barely here the thing. Then when I sped up again, it didn't get back up to the original volume I had set, and I had to keep manually turning it up. Then it just takes over again the next time you stop and you start over again.

I guess I just like to be in control. :D
 
This feature has been around forever with aftermarket decks, I've never cared for it myself, and always just turned it off.

My old Alpines had it, and it just annoyed me with the volume going up and down all the time.

Yeah, to get it to work right you have to adjust it while your already stopped. I noticed if I adjusted it at all while I was moving it completely screwed it up and like you said, once I was stopped it was too low.
 
My days of pulling out a stock unit are far behind me. So, I had no recent exposure to car stereo enhancements other than the jbl units Toyota offers. I did notice you have low, medium , and high do adjust the sensitivity. Were these other units only offering on/off solutions?

What is disappointing is the lack of a standard controller to hook up your ipod into the head unit via the armrest solution so you can use the head unit display and the steering wheel controls to control the ipod.

Also, the radio seems to be xm ready only. No sirrius. Or maybe thats just marketing materials in the manual and you can hook up Sirrius. Any ideas?
