So I'm about to solder the wires and wanted to make sure on a few things. I'm trying to follow this guide

The metra harness is to the left and the Alpine harness on the right. The colors match up easily but I had a few questions.
- Theres two orange wires on the metra harness, i'm guessing that the orange from the alpine goes to the ORANGE/BLACK of the metra?
- the black and yellow wires from the alpine harness are thicker gauge wire to the metra yellow/black, do i still solder those together?
- lastly, how do i route the powersource to a switched 12v wire?
Thanks for helping out a noob, and if all else fails, a forum member has agreed to help me out tomorrow, but i like tackling things myself first.
