Auto headlights not turning off

I have a new 2016 4R TRD Pro. Love it. But the auto headlights will not turn off sometimes. I know click lock fob twice, and sometimes that works but more often than not headlights do not turn off. I am probably doing something wrong but was curious if others are having issues... Thank you

frustrating

thank you... it seems simple enough... I turn truck off, walk away, headlights turn off (after factory set delay). But it rarely does that! Frustrating... but I am grateful to count that as a "problem" in my life!

If you lock it and walk away they stay on for 20-30 seconds. If you double click lock they'll blink and turn off. They're usually done that way as a safety feature so you have some ambient light from the vehicle, e.g if you were in a parking structure.
 
Mine does not turn off. sometimes the double click will do it, but most times not... Hate to come out of a movie theater and see headlights still on...
 
If I pull into the garage at night when the lights are on in the auto position and do not close all the doors because I am taking things out the headights will not turn off until all the doors are closed but I assume you are having the problem when all the doors are closed.
 
Recently ran into this issue and one of the other things I noticed is that my interior dome lights as well as my door open on the dashboard isn't coming on also. Thinking this might be part of the issue but am not sure if there's a relay to check for this issue or if it's in the ecu?

Normally engine off. Doors open. Doors closed. Then lock would turn off the lights. If it's not registering Doors open this might be part of the issue. Am I the only one?
 
My 2016 TE turns off the headlights after a short while but if I click the fob lock button just once they turn off immediately. For quick stops I rely on the auto shut off to see it work properly but if leave the vehicle for longer periods I turn them off and don't chance it.
 
Same here,
Sometimes lights stay on. Not sure which combo makes this happen. If you unlock and don’t open the door it locks again. If you park then not lock, I think the lights stay on. But I’ve seen where I swear it was locked but the lights stayed on

Also, there is no low fuel and low windshield washer warning lights ! :wow:

Doesn't bother me, but never seen that in a car !!
 
I had this happen with my wife's Sienna actually. It ended up being the door switch (the one that tells it the driver door has opened and closed). Check whether your door ajar light comes on when you open the driver's door. The theory of operation seems to be that the headlights remain on until 20 second after the drivers door has been opened and closed. With a bad switch, it seems to think the driver is still sitting in the vehicle and leaves the headlights on. It only took a $14 switch and about 10 minutes to swap it, but I probably spent an hour messing with things before coming up with a plausible theory (proved right in my situation).

The switch is only connected by one wire and grounds through the body, so good ground is necessary. When you test, make sure you put the screw in or your switch will probably not work.

There is absolutely a low fuel light. I've had it come on in my 2017. I'm fairly sure NHTSA requires it on all US vehicles. (Working to try to confirm this...)

Low washer fluid alert is not overly common, however. I've had plenty of vehicles without.

Re: low fuel lilght - ok, will keep an eye out for it, haven't seen it yet in 40k miles, and usually run pretty low on fuel before i fill up.

page 591 5th gen owners manual (2012 model year for reference). washer fluid lights are only for canada (probably due to more road salt conditions requiring frequent sprays, I wonder if the reservoir is larger too). low fuel light indicator is on all vehicles
 
For a while I didn’t know trd pro had auto headlight setting on stalk. I know in techstream, you can adjust the timeout duration after lock.
