Auto to Manual swap

Has anyone done or heard of swaping a 5 speed into a 3rd gen automatic 4runner. My auto feels like it is about to die(180,000 miles) and I have always wanted a manual. Does anyone know who could do the swap or about how much it would be?

there is a lot involved switching out the center console to fit a manual shifter, clutch cylinder, clutch peddle, linkage, so on and so forth. I also don't believe the t-case is the same on manuals if you have 4wd

Yes it is a 4X4, can anyone verify if the T-cases will match up?

I hope the swap ends up working for you, the 3.4 with a 5spd would be absolutly amazing.

i believe i have actually heard of someone trying to do that, ill never know why someone would want a 5 spd in a truck this slow, but ill search for the link... ive got it somewhere

as far as the transfer cases, i would assume they are different, but the auto tranny is going to be alot cheaper to replace, esp. if you go junkyard searching...

not to change the subject or anything, but I just sold my 96 4runner with a 3.4 5sp
and bought and 02 sport edt with a auto
I can not believe how much slower the auto is. wow But still great truck

I also would like to do that switch... at least until next year when Chevy releases a new smaller diesel engine that I can put in my 4R with chevy's new 6spd auto...

appx 250hp
appx 400ft/lbs
and about 35mpg
