Automate Alarm AM1

Rookie Alert!

Yes, I'm a brand new 4Runner owner (2006 SE V8) and I've got a question for some of you fellow owners. I had the dealer install an alarm - the Automate AM1 using the factory keyless entry remotes. When locking/unlocking the truck, the horn honks along with the standard lights flashing and mild chirp that comes with the factory keyless entry. Can anyone tell me how to turn off the honks - and still keep the alarm on (ie. not putting it in "Valet" mode")?

Resurrecting old thread to add info about Automate AM1 alarm modules (Directed Electronics). I pulled the panel from underneath the steering column in my used (new to me) 2004 4runner and removed both the inline fuses to completely disable the Automate system. I may try and use it again and program it to stop honking the horn... but I'm a bit wary of it getting screwy and locking me out, so I'll probably just remove it completely. "I've installed hundreds of them. I like DEI, but that unit is the biggest piece of crap i ever messed with. Here's your problem. The door has to be closed for programming, but the AM1will not realize this because of voltage bleedthru on the domelight circuit of your car. It just doesn't see the door closed! Cut the door trigger wire, program it, then put the wire back together. I've also had problems with the light being the valet switch. Some genius at DEI decided to put the switch in the light, so when your supposed to count flashes and see the light on or off you can't because your finger is on it! Genius.....Anyway, sometimes the switch doesn't make contact every push so i use a separate valet switch plugged in to the blue plug to solve all this. After i program, i just plug the stupid LED switch back in for the customer."

AM1 Tamper Alert does not reset

Hi All,

I am going to resurrect this in the hopes that someone who knows about these systems are still around!

After a new alternator installation and problems with water, my Automate AM1 system has become a little screwey. EVERY time I disarm the system, I am receiving a Tamper Alert -- the parking lights blink and horn blows. Also, the immobilizer is engaging and I cannot start the truck until I clear it.

After looking at the manual, I have figured out it is telling me about a tampering in Zone 3, the door trigger. However, clearing the tamper alert and starting the truck is supposed to clear it. It does not. I seem to have a constant tamper alert every time I unlock the truck. :ybrick:

I have placed the unit in Valet mode (it may have been like that since I bought it in 2006 second hand).

Any ideas what could be the issue here and any possible fixes??
