Automatic trans shifting hard

Hi all, first post on here. Great to find you guys. I recently bought a 1990 sr5 four runner with an automatic trans in it. It seemed fine at fist but after I took the center console apart to replace a burned ot indicator light, it started shifting realy hard. Mostly when cold, it will rv up to almost 4k then SLAM in to 2nd gear, and continues to do this for some time, untill it is very warm, and has been shut off once or twice befoe driving again. What the heck did I do?

If the Power/Mileage switch is in that console, you may have screwed it up somehow.

The tranny will wind out longer in the Power mode, and may shift a little harder, but not as bad as you describe.

Sounds like you scored a street/strip shift kit for free! LOL, only kidding. It definitely sounds like something with the ECT power/ normal switch wiring or did you mess with the linkage at all?
