Automatic-Whats the "L"

This might sound like a silly question.
Just bought a 98 2wd limited, and was wondering what the "L" was on the auto shift. I've only had stick-shifts to date and have no owners manual.

In the case of your 4Runner then I guess you could say L is the new 1, depends on the vehicle. A friend has an 03 Yukon and it has a 1, 2, 3 and Drive, so I guess in that case you could say 3 is the new O/D off.

2 - 2
OD-off in D - 3
D - 4

ECT button: Delay shift points.

I would say OD off in D = 1, 2 and 3 just no 4.
