The race is this saturday and the 1st place winner gets 1 million.

Assuming that there is a winner then there is a prize of $1 million. Many people think it likely that there will not be a winner this year. The race will be held annually through 2007 or until there is a winner.

Most entries are costing well in excess of $1 million.

Qualifying trials.

So far only a few of the vehicles have even made it through the qualifying trials on the racetrack.

Even with the rules changed to allow more of the participants to participate, even with the planned course cut in half, no vehicle even completed 5% of the race.

.... and that's why they called it "The Grand Challenge." This problem is hard.
